Here's the Clarion RFI fix installed
It looks like a magnet to me ???
It simply snaps around ALL THE WIRES right where it plugs into the Subwoofer https://www.f150online.com/galleries...2350-31991.jpg https://www.f150online.com/galleries...2350-31989.jpg https://www.f150online.com/galleries...2350-31990.jpg |
I think its called a ferrite core.
|
yup. Ferrite
That's a shielding ferrite. I think you can pick them up at Radio Shack.
Basically it stops the magnetic field generated by the wires. (for all technophiles: yes I know that's not true, I did FCC testing for 2 years) Kinda a general fix (most playstation controllers have one for example). That shouldn't mess with signal quality on a sub, so it looks like a done deal :) Coldie |
I'm curious to see what you guys think of this fix when you get it.
I put it on, AND I’M NOT IMPRESSED  ALTHOUGH it does seem to improve the reception SOME WHAT, I still only get 3 stations with no problems, and maybe another 7 with some static. I still can't get a few I use to be able to get. The biggest improvement (and much bigger than the RFI) has been me cutting the 2 power lines from the Tee Harness and running them to a new source, I may try that with the ground too. As it stands right now I'm getting my 3 regular listened to stations, so I guess I have no choice but to live with it or return it (I’ll live with it) CAN I PUT MORE OF THESE RFI’S ON THE LINE ???? ANYBODY KNOW. I’ll write Clarion again and bust some horns but I think we can all safely say we now know why they special'ed them out. Post some feedback when you put yours on please |
Hey Rob,
That looks like the hunk of iron that used to come in a baggy along with computer monitors. I think I have one in my junk box somewhere. I'll have to go diggin'. Maybe stringing a cap across the power leads will help too. I think you've tried that though. When I get mine I'll some playing with it to see what I can come up with also, but we may be dealing with something with inherent problems. |
You got to be kidding me!
I still havent heard back from Clarion after sending that email. We will see if anything shows up in the mail this week. |
I just wrote Crutchfield and sent along about 50-75 posts (including this one) showing how many of us are having problems. I also told them WE WOULD CONSIDER an equal OR SUPERIOR alternative system for our application for the same price.
I also found this on their Web Site: FREE technical support for life: Step-by-step help: 16 hours a day, 7 days a week. Whether it's a VCR flashing "12:00" or a complex car security installation, our technical support staff is ready to help you set up and use the equipment you buy from us. Our helpful expert Product Advisors are ready to answer your questions and offer advice. I think it's time for everyone to hammer them with emails, and DEMAND A FIX OR EQUAL PRODUCT. To be continued...... |
