Modded experts in hear please

OK here is the thing. I already have a track car and swore to myself that I would not mod the Lightning but after driving the lighting it’s just too hard to resist. The biggest thing I want is reliability!! I have had a lot of bad experience with modding and my Camaro has had a lot of bugs I had to work out but I am not looking to go even close to as crazy as the Camaro. I want to run low 13's high 12's hell mid 12's would make very very happy!!

I don’t want to change exhaust so is it possible to RELIABLY go into the 12's on street tires with Pulley, Intake and computer? I don’t know much about the Lightnings so part numbers and the cheapest source of the products would help me out big time. So what Pulley will safely take me to what I am looking for if any? Also does the computer have to be flashed or is there a chip out there that I can use that will work for a Lighting with 4-6 pound pulley and Intake.
Thanks for any input.
PS I know there are most likely many threads like this out there but I am just trying to be very cautious because I have had a lot of problems in the past so I need someone to tell me this is what you need and you will be reliable and not hurt the truck and blow your motor.
So Part numbers and the cheapest place to get them would be great. I live in Canada so any one who knows Canadian suppliers would be great too but is not a must.

Thanks!!! Jason

Go with an Ram Air Kit, Chip, and 6lb pulley and you will be fine. If you beat anything long and hard enough you will have problems. However, a conservative street tune w/ these mods will yield 12 second timeslips. You may have to do a shift kit to keep the tranny from slipping w/ the extra power.

Check these websites.

www.johnnylightningperf.com Diablo chips
www.teamjdm.com Superchips
www.powersurgeperformance.net Autologic chips

Pick one. They all have the pulleys and filter kits also.
Most people go with the 4# pulley for a daily driver, but I have seen a few with 6# also.

PSP Chip
PSP fast air filter kit
PSP 6lb lower pulley
PSP/factory tech valve body ( MUST HAVE!!!!! )

With that combo you should go high to mid12's with good weather.

I would worry about the exhuast on the truck, its pretty good stock.

You could also get a electric fan kit and water pump and that would only help the truck out more.

the weakest thing in the L has got to be the tranny once you start to mod. I've gone threw 3 of them so get that valve body for yours and don't raise the line pressure on your chip and you'll be ok.

your going to need new plugs also, but I'm sure you know that.

There is no problem at all getting into the 12's with a simple Chip, Filter, & Pulley. I happen to like changing both the Upper and Lower but most here will say "never change the upper", Scaddy Cats The reason I like it is because with the Dial-Ur-Boost Upper you can adjust up or down 2 LBS in less than 5 minutes with out ever bending down or getting dirty.

Bottom Line, Do the Filter or Air Induction, Boost By-Pass, 4-6 LB Lower and a good """CUSTOM""" Chip. You will do 12's easy. Most 02 Lightning's will run a 13.6 all day 100% Stock.
USA Hooter ran 13.4 stock all day Maybe it was 13.2 or 13.3 ???
He'll probaly respond to this and tell you himself.

Check my Gallery, it has pictures of everything I just said
GOOD LUCK MY NEW LIGHTNING BROTHER AND CONGRADULATIONS

I got into the high 12s with a 3lb pulley, chip, air filter kit, th body, boost dump disconnected, and the stock exhaust. Of course, I had to use M/T ET Streets at my track to do it--my hat's off to the F1 guys!

Wow this is some great info guys thanks!!

OK now here is the big question. Some are saying 4# and some are saying 6#. Am I going to regret getting the 4# if I do get it since I wont have the power of the 6# or if I get the 6# would I regret that because it will be to much on the motor and take away my reliability? JLP makes a 5# pulley. Why has no one mentioned that pulley? Would it be a good one to get?

With my current mod's, my truck has run just fine! Just make sure you get a safe tune! As for runnin in the 12's, ive seen plenty of people show times of 12's with my mods. Check my sig for mods.

From what I've seen, most just went up in pairs. First it was 2# then some dangerous people went 4#. Now they're up to 10#! Note, that's not daily driver.
Here's my inexperienced opinion (see sig. no mods ) For what seems a small package of just 'chip n' filter w/ pully', simply pick a tuner (many listed here) and go with them. They all make all you're looking for and it would make it simpler (sp). I wouldn't recommend chip direct from chip manf. The tuners do a great tweak to your paticurlar situation; especially their own stuff.
So here's my own list to do what you're looking for (if only I had the money)
Chip - atleast 2 way incase of bad gas
Filter - 'cone' over 'drop in' stock box
Pully - 6#
Plugs - Diridum (sp whatever that name is)
Trans kit - NOT line mod (chip line increase) Just go ahead and get it done right.
Elec fan kit w/ Cobra water pump.

Sorry no balance sheet but I think that should run $1100 - $1300 (Just an Observers guess) and I think doin' it all with the same tuner will all work great. Hope this helps.

JL pound pulley, JL chip, JL airkit, JL shift kit. 12.58@105.9
I do not belive that there is anything 100% reliable when you race it. With the safest tune best parts best track conditions ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN. Although these tuners make awsome parts and do a great job giveing the proper tune for your applacation, it dosent garentee the person behind the wrench that built your motor, trans rear etc. I have had 2 lightnings countless mustangs and have learned that if your gonna race it if your gonna beat it theres a good chance your gonna have problems. Knock on wood my 01 has held together threw over 100 passes at the track, many miles towing and countless hours of flat out street abuse. However im always ready for something to break. If it does im prepared to take responceability for it. Not come on here like some people do and blame it on ford or blame there tuner etc etc. My father told me years ago while I was building my 93 cobra that I cant have the best of both worlds a 600 hp track/show car without any problems. well 4 years later and 45,000 later I realized he is right. Although i dont listen to him it what he said is true. But i cant leave anything alone. My lawnmover has JLP stickers and a K&n filter on it. My best advice is if your scared to mod then just leave it alone.

P.S your problems with your camaro most likely had something to do with the fact its a chevy.
