What's going on with my engine?

My stock 2001 L seems to be having some problems. I'm getting the "bumpy road" feeling that was described a few weeks ago at around 30-40 mph. If I remember correctly someone said he had the problem, and it was solved when he replaced the #4 coil. I'm also having some hesitation under acceleration at the 1st to 2nd shift (around 40-50 mph). At first I thought it was only when I floored it, and maybe the engine was flooding, but it did it yesterday 2 seperate times. Anyone experience this before, and if so what was causing it?

I'd look carefully at no. 3 and no. 4 coil packs. Look for signs of coolant stains and/or corrosion. Note the two coolant hoses just above that area as that is where a leak may have developed.

If everything is OK with those coil packs, then I would check:

1. PCV valve
2. Fuel filter(how many miles on it?)
3. spark plugs

Looks like it was the #5 coil pack and plug. I have to wait until Monday for the parts, but hopefully everything will be back to normal.

Well, looks like the hesitation is still there. Dealership is going to run more tests. Anymore suggestions? 12,600 miles on unmodded engine.

that was me that had that problem. in my situation it was a #4 coil. sounds like the same exact description as what mine was doing too. good luck on finding the problem coil.

engine hestitation

I had the same problem with my F-150, started happening in July. Check engine light never came on, and fault was never logged onto the computer. Took it in because it felt like a transmission slip. Nothing wrong there. Still happening, and getting worse. Shop had to drive it with the computer plugged in to find a cracked coil on #1 cylinder. According to the service rep, this happens a lot on the 150's. Bummer was that I came in after warranty, but they agreed to pick up 75% of the tab. Was hoping for more. Moral, bring it in before warranty runs out.
Truck runs great again.

Anybody know of a way to get a copy of the software and load in onto my own laptop? Would have helped solve this problem
