tranny in L's go bad?

Haven't had L too long so no probs yet...but i was talkin to a buddy of mine...his co-worker has an L, he has about 20,000 mi on it and already having tranny troubles.

He said he's heard many people have troubles with the tranny, and from the looks of it there are a few peeps on here with troubles with very few miles (10-20K). is this something i have to look forward to, my tranny goin out at 20k?

I have a couple of friends with 35K, and no problems yet. I sure hope this isn't something to worry about.

I had my tranny go out in my 01 at less than 10,000 miles.Tranny was not abused,it just failed.Ford had the service dept. change the it out with a new non-remanufactured tranny.I hear a lot of complaints about Ford for different reasons but I have had excellent service from Ford. They have repaired everything that has failed on my truck(only a couple of failures) without question. If I lost my truck today for any reason,I'd be on the internet tomorrow, hunting a good deal on another Lightning.

Have to remember,450 lbs. of torque would ruin most trannies in a day.Considering the power, these trucks have a good record of service.

yeah...i've had good exp with Ford service so far. Only been in once, but hey..."first impressions" huh. Had the weather strip on top of windshield come loose, they fixed it ASAP and offered a free oil change (synthetic even)

anyhow...i sorta figure with the amount of power these trucks produce the tranny would have issues, but not so soon. the stories i've heard of probs, some guys were all over their trucks racin, etc....and then there's some that babied 'em only raced once or twice and still had probs.

guess we'll see, only got 1200 mi so far

usually tranny's are good or go quick doesn't matter how nice you are to them. probably something to do with tolerances in the tranny since they make them so fast

If you leave the engine stock, they're more or less good for 100K miles, really. If you start modding, you need to do some owrk on them. A shift kit helps, good clutches help more, there's a lot that can be done, the more mods to the engine the more you need. You can get a full on Monster Box for $1,700 plus exhange, so it's not terribly expensive, either.

well that gives a little sigh of releif....i know how things go. every truck is different. (on the dl, i used to be a chevy man, my first truck was a 91 stepside with a good old 350....drove the #$it out of it for 7 years....only took it to the shop one time..bad starter)

but i've seen some real crappy chevy's too, as well as some real lemon fords. doesn't matter how hard or soft u drive them...

but...for now....i'm not gonna mod much with only 1200 miles...just stick with the K&N filter and Mac exhaust

thanks for the advice i'll keep the tranny in ck when i start modding
