Will headders kill power??
Will headders kill power??
I've got a new 5.4L F-150 and want to get Edelbrock headders. I already have a K&N FIPK and Flowmaster muffler si/do 40. Will adding headders actually cost me some power or low end torque? I am going to get a chip tuned for the headders at the same time. Will this help? Would you get the headders even without the chip? Thanks.
No, I don't have a L or a supercharger but you guys give the best performace responses so thought I'd be better off posting this over here.

Yo Galaxy dude, good question, I think I have a good answer. If you go the header route, make sure you get a long tube type, even though you're not running a blower, you still have a long stroke motor. Long tubes strong point is their ability to increase torque. 5.4 motors are already known for making good torque and long tubes are designed to further increase their ability to just that, hope this helps, John H.
long tubes are the way to go if you do it. I actually saw greater increases at the low end of the dyno chart. 12 rwhp and 17rwtQ.
Don't know what will happen with a normally aspirated 5.4

I was actually looking at the shorty headders due to cost and not having to re-do the whole exhaust. Edelbrock nickel/chrome plated headders for $379. I would think having a chip burned for it at the same time it shouldn't be a loss.
Headers
From what I have read many places the shorty headers won't hurt your power but they won't help much either.Definitely get the chip asap- you will see more from that than you can imagine. It wil give you a different truck!
