Hey Max!

Time for the Simple Green/H2O mod in the ole engine compartment, or something.

OBTW, what is the clear tubing coming from the intercooler reservoir with the blue clip-looking doo hickey near the coil packs?

Bob

Speedy,
Mine needs the cleaning mod more than this one does. That's the pic off the AFM website. I didn't feel like taking a pic today.:o

The cable looks like someone was sitting on the dyno when this pic was taken.

Where do you find the time to post. With all those parts piling up in the corner, just waiting to be installed on your truck, you'd think you would miss an opportunity to make fun of my dirty engine bay every once in a while.

I like to pile all of those parts in a circle around my truck and imagine what it would be like if they were all on it.:o

Your truck looks more and more like Rich's truck all the time.

Hmmm...looks like you drilled one too many holes in it....Did your engine hiccup when it ingested the residue?

Yep, it's history. I decided against spending an extra 50-60 bucks for a powerstack filter that may or may not have solved my problem.

Thanks. I'll post pics of how it looks on my truck this weekend. And yes, there is a very noticeable improvement over the Volant. I'm not sure how much of an improvement I have over the PSP kit I had before. It will cut the tires loose, not just bark them, in the 1-2 shift now. It never was this strong before. In fairness, I have added an Accufab throttle body recently, also. The intake duct is about 4 inches in diameter at the smallest point, and should help with airflow quite a bit. Oh yes, the blower whine is definitely back now........... With a vengeance!

I'm surprized you removed the Volant. I have one also and love it. It looks great and I think is a good match for my setup (4#, chip, daily driver).

It does look great; but, it is too restrictive in the air box. Do you have a 90mm MAF or an 80mm? I think the kit might work better with the 80 since that is what it was built for. The kit I have now just plain flows more air. I kept getting SES lights with the Volant. (about once a week) When I took the box off and ran it that way...... no codes. If you have the 90mm, I think you'd be even more surprised at the difference the AFM kit makes.

If they had based the kit around the 90mm, or even bigger for future MAF growth, and used a different type filter (Powerstack), it would be a great kit. They did not, and it is not. It's OK for 80mm vehicles though. Even for the 80mm kit they should have used a different type of filter. The end-cap blocks too much air.

I have 90mm MAF. I've never set an SES yet, and I've had it on for several months. I did put two 3" holes in the bottom of the box, but other than that, it's unchanged. In fact, I've never felt that the truck was starving for air. technically if it was unable to provide the air the blower needed, the filter would collapse.

Mine didn't set off codes after I cut the holes in the bottom either. Then I added the throttle body and that changed everything. The codes were not from starvation during top end or midrange driving; but, from airbox evacuation at tip in.

That does not mean that I was getting as much air as possible during regular operation of the vehicle. Just an adequate amount. The vehicle was probably running safer with the Volant. Less air means richer conditions inside the engine. The stock box is less restrictive.
