Nitrous plus 5lb pulley and still in the 12's, What gives?

This is the deal, I have a jl 5lb pulley, 2800 stall, longtubes w/ bassanni catback, fiberglass springs etc. etc. etc.... I ran the quarter at a speed of 115.68 mph at 12.136 with a 1.89 60ft. Im just trying to figure out how all these guys are running high 11's with only a 125 shot of juice? What a crop of ****. I shot a 90 shot and had the 5lb pulley with a tuned street chip and still not that good. Granted I ran on Nitto street slicks and my 60ft times could of been better, but Could i be doing something wrong? What really drives me crazy is that 70 percent of people on this forum run low 12's in any weather and the other run high 11's without any mods. Like I told my nephew at the track last night, Racing is 90 percent lies and 10 percent truth. :)

I'm with you on that!!!

I wonder if you might improve if you changed your rear end gears, also what state are you in. I've noticed that a lot of people who are getting into 12's are in CA and close to sea level. Me being from Ut and a high as He** elevation would be lucky to get high 13's with some serious mods, where as I would be getting low 12's in CA.

Good luck

No , changing gear size wouldnt help. A friend did and he got worse. Im in Georgia and the humidity might kill me who knows.

I ran an 11.97sec quarter with the below mods @ 4700lbs with a 100hp shot. Actually, take the powercooler, electric fan and pump off for list of mods on that pass.

You betcha, Sal. Big grins on my face after that pass and all thanks to you. Chip will be coming back soon for a reburn from recent mods.

It's in your 60's. Your MPH is there, but you cant get out of the hole hard enough to get the 11's. Get some ET Streets or QT Pro's and try it then.

ICULOKN Jun 9, 2002 10:19 PM

Its your 60 foot man!! I hit 11's with only 113mph!!

I agree with everyone else you should be in the 1.65-1.75 range. You need some slicks. That will get you an 11 ;)

Slicks can make it happen

With that many mods trackion is king, get it hooked up and you will be there, just look at your MPH the power is there you just aren't getting it to the ground. Todd

You answered your own question as to why your not in the 11's.

You should be running 60ft times in the low to mid 1.6's with your mods.
Subtract 2 tenths from 12.136 and what do you have---11.936
Actually you should gain more at the top end.
A drop in your 60ft time will usually be more or less doubled at the top end. If you ran a 1.89 60ft before and you ran a 1.69 now, you should see a 3-4 tenth reduction in times at the end.

So were all in agreement, I need true slcks. But what rpm should I launch at with a 2800 PI stall?

hdmlnium Jun 10, 2002 11:21 AM

I would say it is in your 60' times as well.
I ran a 11.73 at only 112.07 mph. So you do have the mph to run in the 11's
here is my slip;
60'.....1.694
330'...4.833
1/8.....7.451
mph....93.30
1000'..9.749
1/4.....11.737
mph....112.07

That was done on 26" E.T. streets, 2lb lower pulley, and a 100 shot, along with the rest of my bolt ons. the weight was 4920lbs.

So, get some better tires to get your 60' times down some and you will be in the 11's. the run above was done on a stock converter so I launched at about 1300 rpms, and with your 2800 stall, with some good tires I think if you launched at about 2300 to 2400 you would get a great take off.
I hope this helps and good luck with your quest for the 11's
Bill

I would say stall it to 2500 RPM launching on the Nitrous w/ the 28" QT Pro's. If you dont blow the tires off, that will most definatly be a mid to high 11.

More than likely, it's going to come down to trial and error; to see what works best for you and the track.
