456 Gears

Has anyone heard of any company offering 456 gears for the 9.75?
Can anyone tell me who made the air box seen in the pics of "powercooler installed" I think it was submitted by nmile

I see by your profile you really don't have an "L"..If you want to run 4.56 gears you have to be turning at least 7000 rpm's thru the traps,,Get real !!!!!!!!!

easy fella,He just asked a question

I see you have never run 456 gears in any car!!!!

I do own an L and have run 456 gears in every fast street car I have owned.I have considered all the pro's and con's of these gears and feel they will work fine for drag racing and street use.

If you don't know the answer, Don't reply.

I've used up to 5.13 and the car ran 11.8s.

Thanks! That information is excellant! It not only confirms I can
buy these gears and RPM's WILL ONLY BE 5900 @ 118 MPH!!
I am also glad to see you are a true racer and like myself not afraid to get your hands dirty and change ring and pinions to suit your needs.

Thanks again!!

hey firefighter,

are you the guy that lives down the street from me on 3rd ave s ?

J15BIG 05-04-2002 10:21 PM

How streetable are 4.56s? Like what rpm would you be at in 4th gear at around 80?

StruckBy99 05-04-2002 11:56 PM

J15BIG

Do you drive around at 80mph often?:)

With 4.56 gears in the rear end would run at 3274rpm at 80mph of the f1's.

Sounds like 6 miles per gallon to me.
Too rich for my blood.

Ok first,,Sorry firefighter..
second, el wrongo moose breath,,heheheh

I ran 4.55's in my 64 Ponitac 421 cu in..low 13 second car and I was turning over 6,000 rpms before I hit the traps at cecil and floating the valves at 106 mph..

Third,, I put those gears in and every other ring and pinion change I had and also for others..

Forth,,and at 61 years of age I'm still doing it..

Again sorry if I offended you,,but 4.56 gears, see no reason for them in these trucks..

Thanks for the response,apology taken.

Like yourself I have been involved in drag racing for over 30 years, but I am not as old as you. I respect that you enjoy the sport and believe you have alot to offer some of the younger L owners as well as us older guys.I am from northern Va. and will most likely run into you someday, most likely at the track.

I am currently building a 5.4 from the bottom up.Thus the need
for the 4.56 gears. Hoping to be complete this fall.Should see around 650 RWHP. I will be using a aftermarket blower as it looks like the Eaton won't cut it.But for the summer I will run the 01 with my current mods.
Good luck and hope to run into you some day.

PS. Thanks for sending your picture!! Just kidding!

Probleminfected,

I don't think so. I live in northern Va. I checked your profile but it does not say where from. I wish someone with an L did live nearby!!

not all the time;) :D
what about for 4.10s. what rpm at 80?

99svtlightning 05-05-2002 06:43 PM

4.30:1 and 4.56:1 gears are real popular w/ the 32v Cobra gang. I had 4.10's in my 98 Cobra and would've done 4.30's if I had to do it all over again. I think 4.10's is pushing it on a stock L, but I would think about it with some internal motor changes.

I am pretty sure a dude named "rdy2race" (or something like that) put 4:56 in his L. He is racing at NMRA this weekend so maybe he will let us know how they work when he gets back.
