Here are some pictures of a nice Lightning in Florida. I found them on the Ranger Power Sports web site. Looks like a clean install. Just thought some of you would be intrested.

Man, that looks clean.

Nice install. I don't know if I'm ready to give up the cool blower whine, though. Even for a big block. Doesn't look like there's room for an 8-71 in there.

Although I do see enough room for a nitrous plate. . .:eek: :D

Just went and looked at the specs, Not bad the engine makes 600 horsepower @ 6250 rpm
590 ft/lbs @ 4750 rpm

With a little n2o it's probably one hell of a ride.

It's missing a bolt out of the A/C compressor. All the emission control equipment got lost also. :D

Nice job & thought..........just not my idea of a killer though. Now if it was a 427 Sideoiler, 427 SOHC, or 429 Shotgun engine, with twin-turbos. LOL

Hoochie Momma! Sweet lovin'!!

A lot of posers out there try to achieve Lightning status with their regular trucks. This guy has an actual Lightning, but went in reverse with the mods by adding a different engine. Technically now he's an 'L' poser, but at least he HAS a real Lightning.:D

I am the son of the guy that owns the 514 cu in Lightning. I hear on the boards some times about it is not a real Lightning any more. Technically it does not have an L motor but does have one hell of a heart transplant. The truck started out a lighting every thing is still an L but motor and tranny. He is running a Lentech Strip AOD tranny with a 3,000 stall. You would not believe how street able this truck is. On Friday he is having the stock gears put back in ( 3.55) to give a little better gas mileage and so when he runs it down the strip he will be a little better on the launch. The whole reason he went with the big block is because you can only go so extreme before you blow some thing. Chips, pulleys, mass air, headers, and nitrous = rod through block. :( Then when you go to replace it you decide go back with what you had before or go to the extreme. It cost him a lot more than he thought but things always do when you want them done right. :) My dad is just a good old boy that grew up with cubic inches so it only seems right to go back with what you know.

Just for more info the motor put down 618Hp on an engine dyno before leaving ford. I am not sure on Trq numbers. We will hopefully be running it on the dyno in the next month to see how much we loose through the drive train. I don't think it will be your basic auto loss due to it being a built tranny.
All the work was done by Tony Gonyon from HP Performance of Middleburg Florida. I have to say Tony and the boys did a great job. The picks at the beginning of the thread are in Orlando FFW and the truck was not even complete yet. The motor had been in a week. We still drove to Orlando and back to Jax with no problem.

I just wanted to say Hi and give a few of the details.

I have grown to love this 'whine' also and will most likely stay in the confins of the stock setup... Might look into a stroked and poked bottom end and something other than eaton on top. but thats way down the road from now....

but anyway pictures, pictures you must post more pictures!!:D

Roughly, what did the motor cost? I see the Dodge 528 (i believe) Hemi crate motor with about the same power is $13,000. OUCH!

Plus you have the install, how much would that part run? Just curious to know if (knock on wood) i ever blew the L motor!

My mistake on the pics at the top of the tread those were at the River City Sport Truck show. He is still having stuff done to it.

The price of the motor was around $7700 with tax. There was alot more money spent but It comes down that he could of bought a used 99 lightning for the price he has in the total swap.

J15BIG,

Have not ran it at the track yet. The reason he put the slicks on were to see how it would look. He has put so much money in motor that he wanted it to stand out a little at the show. He had the ET streets mounted on the rims a week before he blew the motor and never got a chance to put them on.

This should give us a good name on the roads. BTW, what was the cost of the transmission and installation?
