What's the difference between the L and GT 40 engine?

I just got back from the Auto show and saw the GT 40 - which Ford is to start production in mid 2003, and it will go for around $100,000. It has a 5.4 liter supercharged engine, and produces 500 hp. It has straight headers, but what else does it have to produce so much hp? I figure someone on this board could give me a straight answer, so I didn't ask the hotty giving the Gt 40 presentation. When I have a technical question I post it on this Board. When I want to see someone with a thong covered by tight leather pants, I go to the Auto show.

I believe it has stronger rods to handle the power. New piston design and 4v heads. Probably a lot more then that too.

You had an opportunity to talk with her and you passed it up? Geez, who cares if it's a technical question. What if she surprised you and told you the technical differences?

I agree! I'd rather talk to a hotty, even if the sentences were short, the words were monosylabbic, or worse, just noises or grunts!

I think I would actually prefer noises and grunts. ;)

If the information I was given is correct, the GT 40 concept car has a 5.4L 4V aluminum block,Forged steel crank, manley rods and eaton supercharger running at 8psi of boost. They need an aluminum block due to the weight savings and to dissipate heat for cooling. So I hear.....

If the aluminum block goes into production, you can bet there will be a few on here attempting to get one through the Ford dealer for their trucks. Me inclueded :D

Thor,
What do you mean visting the Ford dealers. There will be those types that by hook or crook they will get their hands on the new motor. You left out the fact that there is good axial flow through that supercharger that aids effficiency.

I love it when they GRUNT .... <grin>

So why didn't you take a picture and post it here? of the thong wearing , tight leather pants hottie

WCFan,
Your right about that one. If there's a will, there's a way. Someone is going to get one of those Bad boy engines, not way of dealer. It will get re-routed from Engine build-up to someones garage. I'll have to take the dealer route! I need my job!! lol :D

I just need the block!

Besides all of the stuff the other guys mentioned, the only "other" MAJOR difference is about 120HP...:D

Like WC stated. Checkout how/where the blower takes in air.

WCFan Mar 4, 2002 04:11 PM

Lets not forget that the GT 40 is a manual trans. So add it all up. Good air flow through the S/C, great heads, the manual trans and also the fact that Ford in most cases never quotes RWHP. The real kicker is that when this Hot Rod makes it debut there will be no other Ford product that will hold a candle to it. They just won't be there. :)
