Cool Some L ???'s

Okay....I'm getting closer to owning this bad truck in a few months. So I have a few questions for the L group. Can you get any Ford color they have???? Out of the color out there I like the silver the best, the blue is okay but too much metal flake for me, but could I special order it with any color that ford has to offer? Next ?? What kind of mileage do you get out of a set of tires. (Not to many burn-outs, if that's possible *S*) What was your best and worse mileage from a set of tires and what are the pricing of the tires? I'd hate to buy a set of tires every other month like we bikers have to do. (3 thousand miles to the best of 4 thousand) Any help is appreciated.

Harold:

No 'special' colors are available--just the factory Lightning colors: Red, Black, Silver, and new for 2002, True Blue. White was dropped for 2002 but someone posted that the factory was rethinking and bringing it back in the last half of this year(a potential for added collectability???).

As to tires--I'm easy on tires. I now have 22,000 on my F1s and they look like they could go another 20,000. I actually have blown them off at the start of several 1/4 mile runs and then I got 'smart' and put on some M/T ET Streets for the draggin' days. If you can resist doing WOT launches on a daily basis, they'll last plenty long. New ones are between $275-300, I think?

Go for it--I'm 62 and this is the most fun I've ever had in a vehicle.........well, there were some nights back in Miami when I was in high school...nevermind .

That's what I thought about the colors. The tires really last that long.....COOL. I was really afraid that they would not last very long, like on sport bikes. (a really soft compound so it would handle better or something like that) Thanks for your reply. Man my hands are starting to get sweaty just thinking about the L. hehehe

That is some great mileage out of F1's. You must have some self control.

I have about 11,000 miles on mine and they need to be replaced.

Maybe I've beem having a little too much fun.

The life is probably about as long as a good set of motorcycle touring tires, with the same caveats with regard to driving style.

One thing to remember - when summer tires get down to the last 1/3 of the tread depth they begin to get dangerous in the rain. If the wear bars are showing you've got serious problems, IMO. I personally never run my tires down past 2/3 of the tread. I guess I'm just ****, but tires are too important.

I got 24K miles out of my F1s on my 2000L. On my 2001L I chucked them for 20" the day I got the truck.

TireRack sells the F1's relatively cheap. And I got my 20" for $209 thru them also.

White is INDEED available for 2002....at least according to the Brochures and the Order Sheet on the Dealer's Computers.

Then again.....who the heck REALLY knows!!

Thanks for the replies. I picked up a brochures yesterday and white was not a color choice, just the four, black, silver, red, & true blue. I wish they had the wedgewood blue, that's what I have now and I love it. Out of all the colors here I like the silver the best so far, then the white. Red is nice, but it's a cop magnet, along with black, just like my bike. (bike is black and red)
