Toulene, who's using it?
 

I saw a post on here somewhere about using this to stop detnation and increase the octane rating. I bought a gallon at sherwin williams today and was wondering how much to add to the tank and if there are any issues with using it. It sounds kinda crazy to me, but if it works as well as some have said, Im all for it.
The search function is still down, so Id appreciate any help or opinions you may have.

Let me know how it works out for you. I am interested in what you will have to say about it.

I haven't used Toluene but I have used Xylene. It works GREAT!

1 gallon of Xylene
3 gallons of 93 octane
1 oz. Marvel's Mystery Oil
------------------------------------
4 gallons of 100 octane unleaded race gas

Substituting Toluene for the Xylen and Marvel's Mystery Oil will give you 4 gallons of 99 octane unleaded race gas.

There's some good info on the TurboBuick.com and GNTtype.org boards as well. That's where I found out about it.
I fully plan on mixing some up to run in my project car ('86 SVO)exclusivly.

I have been using it mixed 50/50 with xylene for about a month with no probs so far. 1.5 gal of each with 7 gal 93. Roughly figures to about 100 octane for $3.80/gal.

97.9 octane. Xylene is 121 octane and Toluene is 117 octane.

[(1.5 x 121) + (7 x93)]/(1.5 +7) = 97.9

Still ALOT better than 93!:D:D

I use Xylene as well in a turbo T/A

If you are using 90 octane how much Toluene or Xylene would you use per 25 gallon tank to get 92 or 93 octane.

I just need enough octane make the chip work to it's maximum.

Or you could just use some Benedrine and then you just woudln't care.

I used it in the late 80's in my wife's 87 GN. I use to work in an industrial paint factory and we paid barely over a $1.00 a gal. for toulene in large quantities. I had a race only chip that required octane booster. I only ran it a few times but it took 2 cans of 104 octane booster in a half a tank of gas to run it. I was talking to
the president of the company about it one day and he said "why don't you use toulene instead". He said that's what they use in gas to boost the octane anyway. He said I could have a gallon whenever I needed it but don't take off with 55 gal. drum, LOL. I put a gallon in a half a tank and it ran smoother that the octane booster with no detonation. The moral to this story is either buy some unleaded race gas at the track or use something like toulene to boost you octane rating. Don't use a 12 oz. can of octane booster because it is CRAP. If you have a detonation problem it only seems to mask it and burn up plugs in the process.

Now I know why you guys bought those white, baggy coveralls and those funny lookin' white, paper hats.....very phat:p ! Btw, are the flat mixing sticks extra! Do you use drop cloths? How many step ladders are needed if the truck is lowered vs. raised?

Dan you are supposed to put xylene/toulene in your tank...not inhale it! If you want i will bring you a gallon or 2 to SDR saturday to try out vs octane booster which is really crap. Course if you dont NEED more octane you may run slower.

I have used it in the past when drag racing my '91 GT on nitrous.
I'd use it on the L, too, but I haven't had the need to. . .yet.
(No chip or pulley)

It's good stuff.

I learned about it's usage from some Turbo Buick friends of mine who heard about it from Kenne Bell.

Perhaps you might want to check with their website, or call them directly and speak with one of their technicians.

BTW: I used two quarts of Toluene per 5 gallons of gas, but that ratio may change for this application.
