Question Best basic mods for 12 second L????

Hey all,
I'm newer to the board, although i've been reading/studying for a while on the Lightnings, mostly on this page. I just purchases a used 2001 L with around 6,000 miles on it. The car that i'm selling is my 2nd BMW M3. The car is a blast, but it's my 2nd blown motor from missing a shift and revving just a bit over the redline. Thus the need for an auto!! Anyway, i'm wondering what are the best mod's to SAFELY put me in the mid-upper 12 second range. Mostly just driven to work and back. I want to make sure i don't run too lean, ever. I'm thinking:
4 lb pulley
chip
cold air intake or filter

Any recommendations on which brand of parts and what cost for them, also, where to buy them? One thing to keep in mind is that i'm in Arizona and the gas is bad, 91 octane is the best i've found.
Thanks for the help!!!!

I would call Jim at JDM

I have 26,000 miles on my truck and have had great luck with all his products.

here is his web page

http://www.teamjdm.com

Look up Struck in AZ
I think he runs JDM stuff in his truck too, he can tell you what works best in Az.

Your dead on. With that combo you should get high 12's. I personally bought my stuff from JL, but all the tuners sell quality products. Be careful w/ that gas though, if you here any detonation send the chip back immediately to take some timing out.

Hmmmmmmmmm-2001 Lightning,

I'd take CornerCarver's reccomendations with a grain of salt--his motor is constantly chemically enhanced .

Mine is a daily driver too and only rarely requires meds.

Chip, Filter, and a Pulley from any one of the three big tuners will get you into the 12's. Talk to each tuner and tell them what you want and what you do with your truck. Then see what each one says. After that, choose a tuner you feel comfortable spending your money with.

2001 Lightning,

Drop me an e-mail at dandkmcguire@home.com and I'll be more than happy to let you know what I've done to my truck and what has and hasn't worked.

Thanks for the help!

Just want to thank everyone for the help! Struck in AZ, i will email you. I think i remember reading a post a while back of the mods you've tried and dyno'd. So i'd love to here specifics.

One other question. 3 major tuners are mentioned. JDM, JL, and who is the 3rd?

which mod's first

Is it best to buy the 3 we're talking about (chip, filter, pulley) in any certain order or is it pretty important to know your mod's in advance for the chip prgramming? If you switch pulley sizes, should you have your chip reburned?

First - Filter
Second - Chip
Third - Pulley*

*Chip will have to be re-burned for a pulley that over 2Lbs of boost.

Chip and JL ram air got me into the 12's, Added his 4LB pulley and line valve mod, and fan. Now it runs great.
