Nitto 555's (not drag radials) installed

Want to get BMW handling and drive on rails in the rain @ 100MPH+? GET THESE TIRES. Nitto did an excellent job for the 295/45-18's, just like every other Nitto tire that I have owned in the past. They grip the road like padlocks. :D

Throw away the F-1's. I burned mine to jelly right in front of Discount Tire prior to getting them changed.

NITTO 555 ZR
By utilizing a racing concept design, Nitto Tire's engineers developed the NT-555 "Extreme ZR". With a specially formulated compound and one of the biggest contact patches available, the NT-555 provides superior traction, reliable handling, and delivers total vehicle control. The three-circumferential grooves channel water efficiently, while the lateral grooves break up the water wedge. This combination of grooves and channels reduces the chance of hydroplaning.

Thats what I need do they make those in the 305's also? What was the price if you dont mind me asking?

Master Of Pain Jan 24, 2002 10:49 AM

Got mine in the $235 range. No 305's yet, only the 555R's are in that size.

And I did not order them through Discount, I went to a local tire specialty shop and had them ordered from Dallas. I had them installed at Discount for the road-force dynamic balancing. Discount Tire shops where I live are legal rape.

I wonder how much difference in traction there would be between the street 555's and the drag radial 555's?

Master Of Pain Jan 25, 2002 01:12 AM

Street 555's have much harder rubber than the 555R slicks, and higher tread. They hook far better than the F-1's but suck ass compared to the 555R's. 555R's are rated 7,000 miles, 555's are rated 35,000-40,000....

I thought the F1's hooked up well for the first couple thousand miles. How can these tires hook far better than F1's, and be rated at 35-40,000 miles. Did they invent some type of new rubber? What's the deal with these thing's, and will we be able to get them for around $200 eventually, like the F1's?
