NGK TR6's
I work in the small engine/power equipment industry and have access to just about everymake plug there is, but TR6's are unheard of. The NGK book lists a TR5, which crosses into an RS14YC champion. No TR6. Called a fellow dealer, he didn't list them. NAPA (Never any parts availible) said they showed TR5's, but no 6's. I'm guessing this is a specialty plug. With all the posts about plug issues, i would like to swap plugs. My truck is stock but i'm concerned. Will changing the plugs void the warrenty. Are they the same heat range as the oem motorcrafts? The warrenty says any altercations to the emissions systems or pcm, ie performance chips. I couldn't find anythings about plugs.

After 5000 miles the NGK #6's (part#4091) failed on me. You can look at my posts and see what I went through. I just installed the Denso's and love them. I have read alot of post's about plug problems and it seems that most were running the NGK's. Sal has brought up some good info about the plugs, you may want to search for his posts!!!!!

Richard, are you sure you were running 4091s? That part number is WAY wrong for this truck. It's the wrong seat type, the wrong projector type, and it's not a performance plug. If you were running that part number TR6, that may be why they failed you.

sal, recommendations?
Daily driver and my truck is stock, what would you recommend. I will probably keep it stock untill the warranty is up for the simple fact that I can't afford to have a motor, or major failure on my truck and have the warrenty voided and have to pay for it. Mods are very.....uh......very very tempting, but i'm a pecimist and if something bad can happen, it will surely happen to me!!!

Sal,
What NGK TR6 plugs are for the lightning? I have a few sets of #4177 left from my blown Trans Am. Are they the same as the ones you sell? -Wayne |
Yes I was running the 4091's that was wrong huh?? Damn that sucks. Are the IT20's the right Denso's??
|
The IT20's are right. You got them from Sal or JL so you know they are not going to sell you something that doesn't fit.
|
Can you really tell the difference when you change the plugs, or should I just keep saving for the chip, or save and do both at same time?
|
Sal how about NGK BR7EF's? Some guys around here are running them with no problem...thanks

ttt, question for Sal . . .

******, 4177s are the correct TR6 for the Lightning.
Crazyfoo, you'll feel a differance with the Denso, IMO. Not like you'll pick up a tenth, but the Densos usually idle smoother and have a smoother revving rpm range. Jeff, the BR7s work fine, but I still am weary of how they will hold up in cold weather on daily driven trucks. I've still got them in mine, and I'm starting to get a miss at light load now and then. We'll just have to see how they work long term. |
Thanks Sal . . .
