Who hates these old folks for asking how we can afford expensive cars?

yeah some of us are spoiled. i am one of em. but i do however work my @$$ off for what i have and what i have been givin.

i am pissed off at the old guys saying "how can you afford this at 15-20 years old"

its called a LOAN

I think i am probably more pissed at the old guys for asking how can ? then i am the young guys for saying how old?

we all take enough as it is.

i know going through high school i had to put up with a lot of chit from people and teachers because i had 2 vehicles worth over $80,000 together. nobody believed that i paid for it either.
the only thing my parents paid for was the insurance.

its hard growing up with money.

nobody ever got anything sitting on their a$$es.the kids here with parents that have money dont have parents that sit around all day.

I am 22 and with loans and credit card i am nearly $60,000 in debt.
My parents have enough to pay it off but instead of spoiling me they want me to learn a lesson from it all just like they had to and make me pay it off myself.

Sorry to vent guys ive just visit a few other boards tonight and this topic of "how old" "how can you afford" and these kids with expensive vehicles are spoiled."

have a nice evening everyone.

I had one friend in the '70's that spent all his inheritance and ended up in the nut house by 35. Another friend whose famous father went on the skids for about a year but before his dad made the come back my friend hung himself.

2000SilverNavigator, be careful and have fun. Just remember having money has $crewed up a lot of people. It didn't start out that way but sometimes too much fun can kill you

you do have a point, i remember when i was in high school, i didn't have much money at all, but really if i think about it, i worked and at the time i had absolutely no food, house, or any other payments besides my car,,, and that was a 91 voyager pos with chrome rims i did too many sports and girls to have enough time to work full time, but i can definately see how easy it is to save up money for something real nice when all you have to pay for every month is just a car. If you do the math all you need to make an hour is about 7 bucks if you work enough hours every week.

Instead of the mods you're planning....

Don't want to sound like an adult here.

It's great that you bought two GREAT vehicles yourself! (With the help of loans). It would have been better if you didn't get yourself so much in the hole at 22 years old.

It's hard to grow up around money, and then have not too much out of school. You're used to the best, thanks to your parents work ethic, but can't afford it yourself YET.

Hard work is something that I believe in strongly, but you may have what my boys have... bigger eyes than their wallet.

I grew up POOR. I mean POOR POOR. Studied hard and got lucky and comfortable. I have two boys, and live in a great neighborhood. They both seem to have the same problem you're having.

IMO, instead of modding your L, "coming up soon" I would spend every additional dollar I had, paying down my $60 grand debt.

something to fall back on

Thanks,
i appreciate everyones concern here.
I as well grew up poor up till the time i was 8.I was born in a 2 bedroom shack that is smaller than our pool that was at my parents house.

in less than a years time i could easily eliminate my debt.
But why would i want to do that. I am young and stupid, (there is no sarcasm there)

we all do stupid things when we are young.

my dad and grandpa own a very succesful contracting business.

My grandparents cant understand why i want to be in debt. They have never borrowed money. They pay cash for everything.Which i agree if you hve the money like that to pay cash then do it.
But there again i am young and want to try things my way and prove to everyone that i am right when i know in the back of my mind a few years down the road ill know i was wrong but noone will care then so why should it matter.

plus my girlfriend doesnt make things any better.
my parents made her think that we were destitude when i met her cause they think that everyone is after their money.

Weve been together 3 years and just in the past six months i let her in on everything when i bought her a 2001 silver BMW M5 for her birthday which really pissed my dad off because i took the money out of my mutual fund but she says she could care less if i was a millionaire or a cotton farmer , i love you cause you treat me nice and take care of me.
But now she expects me to buy her things all the time or at least i feel like i have too.
And just about 18 days ago the car was totaled.not my fault kinda. i borrowed it to go out to a job site cause the gator was low on gas and the lightning does not go on job sites cause my dad will ask me to haul something somewhere.anyway this new guy we just hired ,josh, was on an oversize Kamatsu pipe layer that is what they look like.
anyways he started backing up and parked the pipe layer on an embankment that he obviously didnt see and he got off and came over to talk to us about some pipe that he bent while trying to run it through some heavy carbon soil and i hear this tilt of steel going on and i look over about 300 yds and here is a pipe layer going straight down and embankment which the car was parked to the left of and over about 50 yds so i didnt even think about that i was worried about this 2,000,000 $ machine that was flying down the slope anyways a piece of 1 ton 3/4" pipe rolls off the back redirecting the path of the layer straight over the top of the car. i thought what are the odds of that.the machine should have just rolled over the pipe but the pipe must have jammed on something to get it leverage.
there was nothing left of the car.
i took some pictures but the insurance company has them right now.

thankfully noone was hurt in the accident.

again back to my topic, i always get redirected and start talking about stuff that has nothing to do with what i was originally talking about.

i have thought about laying off buying stupid things for a year and beine debt free besides a house note but then i think no i could buy this this and this with that money.

ill eventually grow up but till then im just gonna keep living it up.

going back to my topic though.

i do appreciate your concern but i am not going to let myself get out of hand.
i have a great business that i can fall back on in the next few years and i will easily wipe free my debt but till then mastercard and discover card are going to keep making a ***** load of money off of me in interest.

Well, I can see where these "old" guys are coming from.

I am 23 years old and in '99 when I first seen the Lightning, I said,"I will have one of those", and at the time I was driving my hand-me-down '87 Escort that was a giant piece of chit.

People usually say things like what you have experienced because it has taken most of them years to be able to buy what they wanted and when some "KID" who is in high school has better cars and things they have right now it is kinda insulting. I think it goes back to the "Work hard for something" phrase.

I am not going to criticize you on what you have now or what you had before because I am not aware of your life style.

I get the same thing also!! People think because I have an L that I was spoiled and that is not the case. I spent four years in college and have a good job with a semiconductor company making damn good money, so in my mind I earned it.

My mind set right now is that "NEW and expensive" vehicles are great, but what are they gonna do for you other than make you look cool?? Sure, I have my awesome Lightning, but my daily driver is a '91 Honda Civic DX......bottom of the barrel for honda in '91. I drive it because it gets me to point A to point B, and that is all a vehicle is. Moral of the story------Material things are just that......MATERIAL!!!!

In the end you will lose this battle, because out of 30 members of my club, I am the youngest one and the rest are a lot older than me and they have worked their *** off for what they have and will not let some young whippersnapper oust them!!!

Word to the wise!!!

Cool Ha!

The last job I worked, I drove my Lariat to it, and my boss was driving an extended cab Toyota, probably about a 88 or 89 model, and it was beat all to pieces. I have always loved these trucks, and my mother passed away in April of 1999, and with the insurance money, I paid off the house, and then my car, and I promptly traded for my truck. My boss sees my truck and says "Dang, buddy, who died so you could get that?" so I said back to him, very smugly, "My Mom."
Then I just walked away, he never mentioned anything at all about my truck or my family ever again in the next year.

You better get used to people asking you how you can afford exspensive things no matter what age you are, I am 42 and asked constantly what I do for a living. You have to realize most people barely make enough money to get by let alone own exspensive vehicles. It's easy to see how someone living at home with mom and dad can afford nice things. It's only natural for the struggling masses to be jelous, when you have a home of your own and a family to support then maybe you will understand where these people are coming from.

You had me quite confused. From the beginning of your post I thought you were gonna prove all those people who think you're spoiled wrong by saying how you've worked hard enough to be able to pay for everything you own outright. But basically you're just another debt addict rapidly spending himself into the poorhouse just so you can feel rich and live beyond your means while convincing yourself that some winfall will allow you to pay everything off and become debt free overnight. YOU did not earn anything you have. Just because your parents haven't bankrolled you doesn't mean you're a self-made man, you just got credit card companies to build your lifestyle instead. Funny how people nowadays confuse EARNING a nice lifestyle with FINANCING it. I would surely hate to be you if anything unexpected happens any time soon and you're no longer able to keep up with those bills.

A lifestyle built on credit is like a house of cards. Even a light breeze will blow the whole thing down. By the way, less you lump me in with those 'old guys', I am 21 years old, drive a 7 year old truck, and keep it at least another 3 while I save money so that I can enjoy life without feeling I owe anyone anything while letting my money sit and EARN interest instead of giving it to credit card companies to PAY interest. Sheesh, Id jump off a bridge if I were 60 large in debt. I currently have a balance of 400 dollars on 1 card, the other 2 are clear, and I dont even like having that 400 on there.

I don't see how

Anybody could seem so proud about having as much personal debt as a small company.

I hope that M5 title is in your name. In one breath you say she loves you regardless. In the next you say she expects you to buy her stuff. Yank the toys and gifts for awhile and see what her true colors are.

My only advice is to not let a woman strap you financially or emotionally at the age of 23. Good luck and have fun.
