I've got butterflies in my stomach!!!

Ok so apparently my 2002 will be arriving:

"2002 Lightning production will begin this month. What's new for 2002? True Blue has been added to the color palette, a keyless entry keypad has been added to the driver's door handle, and locking lug nuts have been added as a standard feature. Look for the first 2002 Lightnings to arrive in dealer showrooms by the end of the month"

sweet i can't wait!! what should i buy first boys???

SVT GIRL,

Welcome and you'll have a blast with your new truck. I can't believe they'll be available so quickly. If the engine management stuff is no different than the '01's, I'd go with a chip first if you're into the performance thing. If not, I like the chrome wheels and fiberglass bed caps. Apparently, the SVT guys do watch these boards because they've added some of the nice aftermarket things we older guys have to buy extra like the keyless entry. Have fun and be safe.

lets see if I were you I would call JDM and go for his stage 3 kit. Don't do it like I did, buying one part here another part there. Get it all at once.

If you are going to get just one ore two things- chip/filter.

THEAUTOMAN Nov 7, 2001 08:29 PM

Thought ya had ramen in there instead of butterflies. LOL Welcome to the board. Not to sound negative right off the bat but the first thing you should get is a reliable second vehicle to drive while the L is in the shop for clunks, intercooler leaks, premature seat wear, door cracks, spark plug blow out, rod failure, front tire wear, fog light cracks......you get the message. The L is an awesome performance machine/POS if you can live with its many faults.

Congrats on the truck! I hope blue comes out that soon...if thats the case there will be a ton of trucks when its time to buy mine! Dont listen to the guy about the darn problems...geesh..
As far as I've seen the rods letting go are in trucks with lots of mods runin mid 12s or quicker....
The Clunk..ask them to order the fix and put it on before you will take delivery if you want to.
The intercooler leaks, I havent seen but like 3 posts about 2001s leaking.
premature wearing seats. if you're worried about it, get some seat covers. thats what i'll do anyway b/c i know that a grey interior is hard to keep clean.
Cracking doors- happens to ALL F150s but even so I havent heard of it happening all that often.
Fog Light cracks- dont use them in the rain...i believe older mustang foglights are the fix for this.
Front Tire wear...keep a good alignment...I bet if you put Z rated tires on most trucks/SUVs they would wear and show how hard it is to keep them aligned perfectly.
Plug Blow out..I'll be letting the dealer do the plugs, if it blows one out its their problem no way around it. They can blame it on a manufacturing defect and let Ford for it or take it in their own pocket

Hope ya dont let that **** get ya down, I've never heard of any one person having all that happen. and hell you have 2001 or newer so you get a free rental, wash and vac

Ford doesn't descriminate, the drivers side window can stick too.

I do own a L, however I will never buy another Ford product. I have unloaded (luckily Ford pissed me off soon enough) all Ford stock. I will buy old Ford products.
My hatred of Ford does go away when I press the throttle or see the expression of a Vette drivers face when you kick their butt.

However, IF you need a truck and you would like it to be fun to drive and reliable , then you only have one choice.......... Although you could always buy a '56 and put a L motor in that.

Don't worry about the stuff that Redneckferrari, and the automan talked about. I have a 2001 with 23,000 miles which I have about every mod on. I have had allmost no problems at all, no clunk, no slap, and no leaks.

It is the best vehical I have ever owned, with any mass produced car or truck there will allways be a few that have problems. Thats what warrantees are for.

Good luck

Don
