Maybe they'll use those resources to give the L some competition...

I just traded my '99 Z28 in on another GM ('01 Regal GS), and it had far fewer problems than my Lightning. I was expecting dismal reliability and sqeaks/rattles, but was very pleasantly surprised. Considering the many problems with new Lightnings (intercooler leaks, control arm movement, wiper recall, lousy paint, plugs blowing out of the head, etc.), and I don't think we are in a position to call anything a piece of chit. In fact, if it weren't for the Ls amazing performance, I would have gotten rid of mine by now.

I don't know.....there will be no competition left as Chrysler doesn't have anything but the R/T Dakota. I bet the next Firebird/Camaro will be front wheel drive

I remember hearing that the next generation Chrysler LH cars will be rear-wheel drive per Mercedes. We'll see........

Glad someone still likes Camaros...

I sold my 1984 Camaro Berlinetta this summer and wish I hadn't. I bought it used and never had any problems with it. It had 125k miles on the motor and ran perfectly quiet and smooth. I bought a 97 F150 4x4 w/4.6L 5spd with 90k miles on it thinking it would be a great upgrade. Well, 1500 miles later and I need a new engine. It has a bad bearing and ford quoted me $3900 on removal/instal of a FQR. Still love ford trucks but want a 4th gen Camaro BAD!!

Good you belong in a PIS buick. Most people bought mustangs over cameros & firebirds because of the quality of the Ford. That's why they are quitting making them.

As for the Lightning the control arm was fixed easily, all we did was tighten mine. I never have had a squeak or rattle, few have had blown plugs all of which were caused by improper tightening not a factory defect, paint was great, what wiper recall mine work fine, my intercooler was changed while I waited in less than an hour, and this bad *** truck with 52000 miles will flat a$$ kick the hell out most anything on the street.

Keep your buick and I hope you get your plastic seat covers soon.

I have no intention of getting into a flame war over this, but I think you are being a bit presumptuous about why people buy Mustangs instead of Camaros. There is no real data to support your statement, nor is there any data to refute it, so there is no point in belaboring the issue. I was simply relating my PERSONAL experience with the car.

As far as the L goes, I love mine, but for a new vehicle it has more than its fair share of problems. The last new vehicle I owned with this many problems was a '92 Stealth Turbo. Furthermore, Buick consistently finishes much higher than Ford on JD Powers Initial Quality Survey. Please point me to Ford's current mid-sized 4 door sedan that is capable of mid 13s with a handful of bolt-ons. I'll save you the trouble - there is none. The Regal GS is equipped with an Eaton supercharger (gee - remind you of any other vehicle?) and CAI, rockers, headers, and a pulley will produce mid 13 second 1/4 miles. Brand loyalty is one thing - just don't lose sight of the facts. The Lightning is a wonderful truck, but reliability is not one of its strong points.

Lightbulb

I believe that current mustang sales are approximately double the c & fb combined sales. Considering the f body is and has been faster than the mustang and considering performance only represents 10% of mustang sales, according to an interview with the mustang project manager, if it is not quality that sells them over the F body, then what is it? I don't think its styling.

I think what some of you are missing is that EVERY car maker has its fair share of lemons. I have owned Ford, Chrysler, GM, and Nissan and had minimal problems with all, but heard stories about all of the problems that everyone else had with the same vehicles. I used to get into big pi$$ing contests with my friends about who was better but it all boils down to whether or not you get the one that has some loose bolts on it.

FORD over chevy

MarkJ I beg to differ with you everyone knows that a stock Firebird\Camaro even while being faster than their FORD counterparts are the biggest pieces of chit rolling on the streets! I own a four month old F150 (far from perfect mind you)and I am completely satisfied with the truck. Recently I went to look at 2001 camaroSS convertable as a summer toy, I was totally shocked by it's lack of quality I could pull the inner door panel away from the door and it was full of rattles ,to top it all the POS would'nt even start! This car was sitting on a showroom floor with these deficiencies imagine when you get it home what it's gonna do for you lol. So sing chevy's praises in another place cause FORD rules the road.

P.S. chevy trucks are bullchit too!!!!!
