4.10 Gears on '01's
All right. I've done enough searching. Who has put 4.10 gears on an '01 and can tell me how they compare with the factory 3.73's? I've heard every possible answer, but not from anyone who has done it. The postings I've been able to find on this board aren't specific about the "before and after." It would make sense that you'll wind up faster and really come out of the hole, but the real issue seems to be whether or not you run out of steam about the time you need to really crank. It's not an easy thing to experiment with, so I'm looking for help on this one.

If your really interested in running 4.10's, I would only do it with 28" inch tires. I dont think there's anyone that has done this..........yet IMO
|
My question is Why?
|
I've got 29.3" tires (295/40/20). Only reason for a 4.10 would be better performance. If that's not the case, then I would stick with the 3.73.

Somebody has a website (summit?) that will calculate engine rpm based on gear ratio and tire size and you can figure out for yourself what your rpm will be across the finish line.

TTT
There was a few HP and gear calculators on the Mustang Corral, but not anymore. Anyone have a link to a few? I know weve posted some over the years, but I cant seem to find them....yes I even tried a search ;) |
What's the Scoop????
Hey,
I'm putting new 01L replica chrome 20 inch rims on my truck with 295/45/20 inch tires that are 30.5 inches in diameter. Stock is 28.5 inches. With the new 20's, my gear ratio will now be 3.48 on my 01L?? I am thinking about changing to 4.10 gears to get some of my performance loss back. Installing 4.10 gears with the 295/45/20's will give me a final gear ratio of 3.80, a little more than stock??? Ford doesn't sell 4.10 gears for our rearend anymore, I've been told? Who makes good gears to buy? How much? Any tips for do's and don'ts? What does everyone recommend? Yes, I did a search already... thanks, DL |
Go down to the last calculator on this and see if this will help, http://www.mustangworks.com/analyzer.html

went to the site that usa posted, put in 4.10 gear ratio and 28.5tire diameter(Got dia. from DL's post) and it says in 4th gear at 5500 RPM your only goin 113MPH?? Is that true or does that only apply to manuals?? I dont know about the rest of you but i go over 115 at least 3 times a week.

I have done 140mph in third gear with my 3.55's before. It was at 5900rpms. The tires are f1's (28.3"). I am changing to 4.10's and I figure about a good 20-22mph drop, so I figure that to come out to 118-120mph with 4.10's in third gear @ 5900rpms.
Does that sound right to everyone? 20-22mph loss switching from 3.55's to 4.10's? |
id say 120 in third gear is pretty good. so i am guessing you do loose a considerable amount of top speed but you will probably never go that fast any way. top speed with 4.10's in a L, maybe 140(total guess)???
|
Shoot, if you had a lot of horsepower you could still top out of at least 150 or better with 4.10's. But the motor couldn't push a brick that fast.
|
4:10's
I topped out at 138 with 4:10's. On my 00 I pulled the 3:55's for 3:73's allmost as soon as I got the L home. That lasted about as long as it took me to get some 4:10's in.
