Question Boost Waste Valve

I was in the shop to get my IC replaced and the Tech showed me trick. He said I could get up to max boost (18 I beleive) by removing a hose to the waste valve. He said this was worth 56HP gain. He did not recommend this for daily driving but if you had money on line........

Can anyone confirm or deny this.

I'll take a picture tonight about what the Tech showed me. I can send to an email account but not sure how to post here.

I have not tried this but the Tech seemed legit and did a great job on my IC replacement.

Do Tell!

'Beast:

This sounds credible to me. My buddy Eddie told me that his buddy T-Money heard some mechanic guy or something say that there was a good 100 HP "locked up in these things" by emissions and other little doo-dads and such. The dude said that Ford totally choked the things for insurance reasons and so that the cops could chase them better and whatnot. I checked with anther guy I know (Tim Dog) who has like a 450 HP Trans Am and Tim Dog said the he heard that all you have to do is cut like one wire or something in the computer and these thing would run 12's, easy.

I think I heard something about this the last time I went to the track. There was this dude there with a '99 that said his was basically bone-stock, but he had adjusted something that sort of sounds like this and he was running 12.9's at around 108 MPH. He didn't run that day - he had something wrong with his truck, but he seemed really cool and smart and confident, so I have no reason to doubt him.

Go back and talk to your mechanic guy and post some more details of this. I WANT 18 PSI, CHIEF! That's what's wrong with this board - you have all of these so-called "tuners" who just sell us expensive snake oil to get another tenth or so out of these things, when the solution is simple and right in front of our faces. My buddy Big Red back home knows more about motors and transmissions and crap like that than any of these so-called "experts" around here, and I'll bet your mechanic is a lot like him. We need more guys like that to make our trucks go fast. Book learning is no substitute for common sense and simply knowing about motors and such.

When I get home I'm going to start disconnecting wires and hoses until I find the one you're talking about. This is going to rock! By the way, could you post me a description of the "waste valve" - I can't seem to find it. In fact, I wasn't even aware that these things were turbocharged in the first place...

Exclamation I think you might want to find another tech :)

The by pass valve does not work like a wastegate. You cannot "increase" boost with it. During vacuum, it's open. Durning high loads (i.e. no vacuum), it's closed. The only way to "gain" anything from the by pass valve, is if it's not set right from the factory, and it does not close all the way under load. And if you redo the vacuum lines to it so that it is closed all the time, that means that air never bypasses the blower when it should be, and that will seriously increase heat build up. Hope this helps.

Good idea start cutting wires and see what your crystal ball shows you.

BTW, the septic tank waste valve is under the drivers seat i believe along with the flux capacitor.

GOOD LUCK!

Thanks Sal for straightening this out. I'm was not about to start pulling hoses unless someone could confirm or dismiss this.

Now I wondering how good a job he really did replacing the IC on my Beast ?????

Makes you wonder....
