Splifires----BAD----

Are splitfires bad for these engines? I heard a while back that they can cause burnt piston and other kinds of cylinder damage. I would like to know what kind of spark plugs everybody is going with. Are the NGK TR-6s any good?

Thumbs down

Take it from me.....If you use Splitfires, and develop a lean condition under load....its just a matter of time (usually a short time) before you blow the end of a plug or two, and in turn, burn a piston. I would not use Splitfires in an "L", under any circumstances!

NGK's

Kyle,

I too went with the NGK's...Used them all the time in the 300zx, no problems. As Totaled suggested, shop at summit. Some local places in manassas either didn't sell them or wanted like 12.00 a plug...

Summit is much cheaper and in stock

Enjoy putting them on

later

****This is neither to be construed as a spark to current Split' owners/users nor ignite yet another combustable issue as it is goes lean in a hurry....or something.***

As a former Splitfire user and being enlightened from a trusted source as to what can and did happen, I'll never use them again. Not worth risking the engine over minimally improved throttle response.

just my $.02.

Wink

When you say running lean do you mean like RTKILLA did at WFC and melted a handful of NGKs or when 1badtk did the same thing with the stock plugs.

If you run too lean you will burn a hole in a piston no matter what plug is in the motor.

ibfast had over 12,000 miles on his splits a few months ago. I have one set with 8,000 miles and the set that went back in after the Autolite test now has 5,000 miles.

The point is if your running that lean you need to look at your tune not your plug (so to speak).

Do you remember when Wendy's (I think it was) had worms in their hamburger meat. I got that from a reliable source too.

LTNBLT: Its your ride man....use what ya want

By the way....I have some prime Indiana beachfront, ocean view property for sale....cheap.....I'll have my people get in touch with your people

As I was saying a few months back....When I pulled the Splitfires out of my trashed 2000 L motor...I also noticed, (besides the missing electrodes on two plugs,) that NONE of the plugs retained their original gaps. They had all opened up from .003 to .023 !!! I have not observed this in my NGK's or stock FM-1's.
