Problems with '01 L's?

I've read several threads about problems with '00 and previous L's, and a few about problems with the '01's. I am very close to becoming an L owner but before I do so, I wanted to poll the L owners on this board.

How many 01 owners have had problems with their L's? Minor things like cracked foglamps and clunks in the front end can be taken care of with little effort. Leaky intercoolers and especially replacing engines are not only a major pain in the ***, but can seriosuly affect resale value. Who wants to buy a used car with numbers tha don't match? I'm hoping the problems only occur to a small percentage of L owners, but if these problems are common, I will have to definately rethink my decision.

I know what you mean, after I bought my '00 I started coming to these sites for modification questions and all I hear is about the problems that everybody is having. I can say that with my L, I have had no problems (7700 miles) and that I think it is a small percentage of all L owners that see extensive problems. All cars and trucks are not immune to problems. There are all kinds of problems with every different vehicle you can think of. I had a Tacoma and it was in the shop every week with something new every time.
I don't want you to be discouraged when thinking about buying one of these awesome trucks. HAPPY L HUNTING!!!

2_FAST4U,

It's good to hear you aren't having any problems. I know lemons exist with every make and model out there. But the problems that occur in L's is too common to be written off as a coincedence, or coincedences in this case. I hope that other L owners will have similar replies to yours so I can be at ease with my future decision.

I have the hard part done already, a dealer within 15 minutes of my house has several L's on the lot (10) and has exactly what I want. A silver 01 w/ non polished wheels, and all the other options that come with the L. I have yet to test drive it, but I will soon, as well as a few other cars before I make my final choice.

ib fast,
No I/C leak, yet? That's got to be some kind of record for a 99-00 L. Mine just started leaking at 17,580 miles.( 1/4 mile @ a time) 2 Fogs cracked that's it for my 99L!!!

I only have 850 miles and had her a few weeks, but no problems so far.

I hope it remains that way.

Put 26k on my 00 and there's 6k on my 01 with zero problems except for the snappy snap sound from the front end when I turn the wheel to full lock; I'm sure grease can solve that.

2200 miles on an 01' only problem is there click when turning steering wheel to lock (just gotta grease) and passenger side window goes down very low and almost stops once it hits the middle.

If you think it's gonna be a problem, don't buy it.

The only option on the Lightning is a soft tonneau cover. Everything else is standard.

1600 miles and not one single problem. It looks like they may have actually fixed the intercooler problem

Just go for it. I mean, if something really bad goes wrong, you always have a warranty. The worst you'll have to do is go to the dealer and have them fix the problem. This truck's worth it!
