Why doesn't anyone use superchips in their L?
I now have hit the 3k mark on my 01 and am ready for a chip. I noticed the majority of L owner use the "big 3" for their chips. I noticed that some of you have experienced detonation with these chips. My concern is are the tuners walking that fine line btween performance and engine damage? Is the superchip that Mike sells just not on the same level as the tuners? I want the performance but at the same time I don't want to cause damage to my baby. Any input would be appreciated.

Those three only work on L's Superchips, the company, try to be experts on all cars. This all goes back to service not product.

I used a superchip R9 when I had my 00 L and it was great. I ran 13.2 with just the chip and airaid filter. I only used it for two months and want to sell it cheap. Email is mac3307@yahoo.com if interested

I remeber running my SUPERCHIPS RPM file back in OCT.99, with just that and a pair of FLOWMASTER mufflers, along with a DOWNS INTAKE KIT, I would run in the 13.0's all day long LOL
|
I am running a Superchip. It is a standard chip and I have run a 13.5 with everything stock except the chip.

I have an Superchips R9 that works great. Superchips is a great choice for a Street Lightning. It seems like the other tuners crank down tighter on the engines to get more performance for the strip.
I also have a PSP chip. The PSP feels a bit stronger and since it is a 4 way it has more options. "cranking down tighter" on the engines is not always a good thing, depends on what is cranked, how far, and by who. Thanks, Sal. You took the words right out of my mouth. I've heard several of y'all (I remember Johnny specifically) talking about the dangers of running too lean and giving us the skinny on all of it. Too high an A/F might have been a problem on some of the early programs, but all that has changed now.

I had a Superchip and sold it to get a PSP instead. The superchip was a fine chip, but it wasnt tuned very well. Shifts were too hard, power was strong in places and weak in others. Also, the cost of a reburn was astronomical. I went with PSP because Sal would tune the chip to my liking.

Hi Talleywhacker & Sal,
Just to be clear, we tune it for about an 11.7:1-11.8:1 A/F @ WOT. Leaner ratios would be *higher* numerically, like 12.5:1 for example, that would be leaner, and not safe to run. We've never told anyone anything different, or that a lower number meant it was running leaner, I think that Tallywhacker just mis-typed, most likely. I think that is what Talleywhacker meant to say, and I'm sure he understands that. These boards, while certainly valuable, aren't the *only* place to get "correct technical information". https://www.f150online.com/f150board/smile.gif ------------------ Mike Troyer Performance Products, Inc. it's been my experience that the best chip is one that is tuned to your vehicle. while it's easy to call up one of the chip makers and order a chip. i think it is best to program a chip using a dyno and driving on the street to get a feel for the shift points. in my oppinion choose a chip by this method, find a tuner that is local and have them do the above, so know you have peace of mind because you'll actually be there when they burn your chip and go back to when you put your next mod on.

Mike, just curious. What is the stock A/F ratio at WOT? Thanks.
