Post Custom Air box mod?

Those of you that ran a custom air box hose did you go down out the wheel skirt around the frame and back in to front grill? If not exactly how did you route it?

It's a new Audi TT with another turbo, the Audi TTT. J/K, it's "to the top".

I'm trying to decide wether to put on an open filter kit or to do the stock airbox mod. I'm thinking about both -

If you ran an open air filter and ran a hose like many of you are doing from the grill up to the intake, and left the hose open - just let it blow the "rammed" air into the filter, would it also cycle out some of the hot engine air and run better??

Cool

I also opened up the hole in the fender about 20% The real trick is getting around the hose that goes from the lower radiator hose to the overflow tank. Plan ahead! Put the hose in first and then cut the hole in the air box to get the angles right. There is less room than it looks. Tire clearance is also an issue.

It works great

I sure hope so. I recently installed K&N Gen II FIPK. All's well, except it seems awful hot under the hood. The air flow may be better, but it may be sucking some really hot air.

I wonder how much airflow via forced air induction is needed to pressurize the space under the hood. I doubt that's plausible -- too damn big (not to mention, it's not sealed). My dumbass idea was to stick a fan in the hose to force the air in there, but at higher speed, I think the fan blades would actually hinder air flow.

I'd like some ideas on how to get the hot air under the hood out, or least, keep the air around the exposed air filter cooler.

Andy where did you get that hose that you used? The airbox mod is the way to go IMHO. You hog out the stock fender opening a little more then put a 4" hole in the bottom of your stock airbox.

Nice job Andy! Where did you purchase the hose? Is it 3" diameter?

the last 2 ft of hose comes from http://www.stockcarproducts.com/brkcal.htm It needs to be flexable to sneak up thru the engine compartment.

The hose under the fender comes from

http://www.kuriyama.com/images/TF_UREVAC.pdf

It is used for blow in dry insulation. Both are 3" ID

Hope this helps

Exclamation

What I did is cut a 4" hole in the bottom of the airbox closest to the engine. I then connected a 4" tube to this hole and ran it straight down between the lower radiator hose and the front core support out thru the fender cover in front of the tire. I then extended that tube to the front of the lower grill from the back side. So if you look past between the front tire and fender opening you can see the 4" tube hanging down. Here is the real-time data comparisons between the two. Here are the numbers. Both test were done within an hours time frame and using an engine code scanner.
OUTSIDE AIR TEMP/Humid= 95 degrees/99% humidity at 2:00PM

First After Market AIRFILTER KIT:
Flow Meter Data: From 80MPH to WOT capturing data at 120MPH= 45lbs/min
Intake Air Temp: Steady Cruise at 80MPH= 130 +/- 3 degrees

Second MODIFIED FACTORY AIRBOX:
Flow Meter Data: From 80MPH to WOT capturing data at 120MPH= 43lbs/min
Intake Air Temp: Steady Cruise at 80MPH= 100 +/- 2 degrees

I went right in front of the intercooler radiator and on top of a rubber skirt that is about the lowest thing up in front. Where Are you in MO?

Those numbers sound right I also measured vacume in the lower air box. it is now about 5" of water. Down from about 14"
