It's filthy in there!
So, I've got an ARE cap on my L, and I just installed a bedrug. Groovy.
Now I'd like to stop, or at least slow, the infiltration of grit and crud into the bed of the truck. Most of this crapola seems to be sucked in around the huge gaping cracks around the tailgate. Someone, somewhere MUST make a seal/gasket kit for this? I've seem some generic looking 'P' shaped weatherstripping that is supposed to work, but it seems like there should be a better way? Someone here must have found that better way. So now that information should be shared. With me. I have tried the peel and stick weather stripping. Worked for awhile but eventually came off. Like to find some permanent also.

The Bedrug stops most of that itself. But now you have to keep the underside of the Bedrug clean.

Dont know where you guys drive but I have the Snug/Rug combo and dont see any build up of crapola in the bed that didnt get tracked in on the drag tires I carry back there. The Bedrug keeps most of that crap out.

One thing I did notice is that the tailgate in the styleside bed seals a lot better than the flairside.
The Bedrug helps keep most of the crap out, but Ford should do something to seal the tailgate up better. |
My '98 Flareside 4X4 had vinyl strips that the tailgate shut against to seal it. I assumed they just left them off the "L"s for appearance/weight reasons. Check with a Ford dealer.

Aha!
Check with my Ferd Dealer I will! Of course, my hopes are not high; I don't seem to have much luck approaching Ford dealer parts counters with a request like "Hey, can you try to find me a kind of seal dealy that will keep the birds and squirrels from crawling into the bed of my truck?" I know my '94 L had some kind of rubber flaps around the tailgate/bed to seal it up... As for where I drive it, Atlanta is full of filth, all nice and gritty; it all seems to fly up, around, and into the bed of my truck. Poor, poor, pitiful me. Thanks for the suggestions, so far.. -Jim ------------------ ---- Jim Cain JHCain@raising-cain.com White 99 Lightning Black 00 BMW M Coupe http://www.averagegeek.com |
I would check the trucks on the lot. My bet is that they still put them on non-L's. That way they won't mess it up 'cuz you know it won't be in stock.

I'm pretty sure that Steelhorse makes some type of rubber bed seal. I think they make two models, one that uses double-sided tape and the other being screw-on. I will check tomorrow at work and get back to ya on it.

Tailgates aren't supposed to seal. Pickup trucks are supposed to let all the water run out of the bed.
I've heard that the lower classes don't even put covers and carpets in their pickup truck beds, and some of them even carry dirty stuff in them and hose them out at the carwash. https://www.f150online.com/f150board/smile.gif ------------------ Regards, Gordon '99 Red Lightning Johnny Lightning Superchip Johnny Lighting Ram Air Kit Century Tonneau Best 1/4 mi. Ahh, good point about letting the water and crap 'leak' out around the tailgate!
However, the type of obvious cretin that would allow their bed to be UNCOVERED and UN-RUGGED is probably the same type of Typical Random Jerk that parks his truck outside every night, ON THE STREET! Oh, the shame! Wait. Hold on. I'm that guy! I park on the street! (or on the skreet, as we say in my neighborhood...) Oh, well. -Jim (parking on the street, but at least my bed is covered) ------------------ ---- Jim Cain JHCain@raising-cain.com White 99 Lightning Black 00 BMW M Coupe http://www.averagegeek.com |

try www.accesscover.com They make bed covers and also have developed a seal - I think it is called trail seal (but my memory isn't what it used to be) about $30.00 for a 10 foot section. They sent me a sample and it looks pretty good. The double stick part is the heaviest duty tape adhesive I have ever seen.
If that address doesn't work let me know and I'll get the correct one and tele. # Al |
