Hasn't, yet. Waiting on the clutches from Raybestos. Apparently they are prototypes; not even scheduled for mass production until May or June. Raybestos only had two clutch packs in stock and my mechanic ordered both of them, one for my truck and one for a turbo-diesel he is rebuilding. And while the tranny is apart he is going to pull the torque converter and send it to the guy in Inglewood who is going to beef it up. So the job won't be completed for at least a week, maybe two, but I expect to have a really strong tranny when he gets done.

I just went through a tranny rebuild and they replaced the clutches and it did take care of the noises i had but the truck still would not shift right,so they ordered a new valve body kit and what a difference it made it nows shifts much firmer and quicker in stock form without chip!I would reccommend telling them to put a new valve body kit in also!

High roller,
Not to be n a$$, but I'm on my 4th transmission basically, so if you want to know what doesn't work ask me. BTW what your posting (line pressure increase valves) doesn't work for over 3 or 4 hard pulls. We need more clutch/friction plates, quicker engagements and cooler transmission fluid.
If you don't believe me roll down your windows at 120 and step on it 4 or 5 times up to 140 - 145, what's that smell!
If this happen once or twice with a clutch pack, then I would say that I have bad luck, but not 4 times with multiple transmission replacements.
Maybe I have a lightly modded 10 second Lightning, but I doubt it.
I'm starting to see a lot of bad advice on this board.

You said you had multiple trans replacements.
Did you have the same trans rebuilt or did you have it replaced entirely?
Could you give us a little more history on your transmission? How long have you had the truck? How do you drive it? How many miles on it? Do you drag race or road race?
If I can learn a little more from this, maybe I can save myself some problems.
One thing I will say is that a friend of mine just had his trans replaced by ford (lost 2nd gear) and is now very happy with it. Turns out the stock trans was never right from day he bought the truck.
I'm starting to think internal leakage, casting flaws in the cases, bad machine work on sealing sufaces, maybe something like that. Dale

You said you had multiple trans replacements.
Yes about every 5000 miles.
Did you have the same trans rebuilt or did you have it replaced entirely?
Replaced, I now call my Ford service rep and he orders them without me even going in anymore.
Could you give us a little more history on your transmission? How long have you had the truck?
2 Years.
How do you drive it?
Pretty hard street driving, at lease 1 red line every day. I would also say I have more invested than most in just preventive modifications.
How many miles on it?
17,000
Do you drag race or road race?
A couple of drag races a year, but much more street use/abuse. Don’t focus on the word abuse as far as maintenance goes.
If I can learn a little more from this, maybe I can save myself some problems.
After talking to Level 10, I found out that there are some filter/screen issues in the stock transmission cooler that’s probable causing most of the problems associated on this board.

I have one of the first 100 G2 Lightning and I haven’t experienced a positive thing of any of my 4r100’s.

If I had a conclusive answer for everyone then I’d be a millionaire, but I think if we explore the factory Ford design then we can extrapolate the answers. Didn’t Ford cut 4 cylinders during full red line shifts, yes. Didn’t Ford cut 4 cylinders so the transmission would survive, yes. Didn’t I start to have problems as soon as I started with the R9, yes? Didn’t the problems start as soon as I put the chip in, yes? Didn’t I try 4 different chips and experience a transmission problem with each and every one, yes.
Did the dealer replace the transmission cooler each and every time that I had a transmission replaced, no. Will I remove my mods so my transmission will survive, no?
I think that that sums it up for me. The simple conclusion is that I must have my transmission rebuild by someone knows what I’m up to, because honestly Ford did their job pretty good. It’s all my mods that are screwing things up.

Thanks for the reply, sounds like you've been thru the ringer on this one. Hope the hipo rebuild on the trans does the trick.
