times for the L's replacement
The L was replaced with a 01 GT and with only 700 miles on the clock it is only 1 tenth and 1 mph slower in the 1/8th than was the L when it was stock. Far better vehicle and no intercooler to leak! Feel free to flame but facts are facts.

Automan,
I don't care what anyone says, but I believe you 100% about the times you have seen already out of your car. I've seen bone stock '01 GTs run 13.7 @ 101mph...same track a bone stock '99-00 L will run right at the same times...the '01 L is a bit faster. I'm just not sure you can modify the GT as cheaply with the same results as you can the L. But, that may not be important to you at all, so that's cool. Glad you like your new car. Sorry the L didn't work out for you. ------------------ Wes Tarbox 90 LX 5.0 (10.69 @ 134.7)--597rwhp/590rwtq 98 Saleen S351 #15--431rwhp/452rwtq 99 Lightning (13.20 @ 103.8)--364rwhp/447rwtq 00 Expedition XLT 5.4 http://hometown.aol.com/wa2fst/home.htm |
Better for what purpose? If you can show me how I can tow my 7000 lb. boat with a GT I'll trade my L. in a hot second.

Just as long as it still has a blue oval on the grill and not a bowtie, your doin OK. :-) I wouldn't mind having a mustang to compliment my truck, I think they would look good in the drive way together, especially if the mustang had a snake on the fender. Dale |
THEAUTOMAN- More power to you man. I love Mustangs(have owned over 10). I just happen to like the look on peoples faces when they get stomped by a truck a little more. Personally I wouldn't know what to do if I wasn't forever working on my Ford. I think Ford adds these glitches (intercooler,clunk,etc..) just for people like me, who would go crazy if they didn't have their vehicle on jackstands every weekend. The Sun is very hot, thats a fact..gt being better than an "L" is relative to observation, not fact..Sorry..Also let me point out the L is a TRUCK... |
They're both Blue Oval, great vehicles, but different purposes. The L does such a great job masquerading as a sports car that many people tend to forget it's not. The GT is a blast to drive, and it's performance is pretty much identical to the L (stock). It also can tow, albeit not with the same ability as the L. It's much cheaper to operate(gas), but the insurance is much higher. For those that haven't driven one, try it...it'll put a grin on your face. As far as one being a better vehicle, uhhhhmmm, well I'd still have to pick the L, simply because of it's versatility. It can emulate 'sports car' when needed, and 'truck' when needed, and do both well.

Before we purchased the new '01L, Rick thought of a few vehicles, and even contemplated purchasing. In '99 we test drove a new GT and really liked it. Plenty of power, and since I had my 94L, we didn't think we needed another truck.
Last year we were thinking about the Contour SVT. A 4-door ass hauling, canyon carving, economy car seemed like a real good idea. However, that never panned out either. Didn't like the fact that they discontinued them. I started finding all the L sites on the web and started drooling over the G2 L's. Next thing you know Rick is on these sites all the time. After awhile it really gets to you. He knew how great my 94 has been...... how good she can tow...... and how reliable she has been (116,000 miles currently), and how much fun to drive she is, so the new one started to get real appealing. To make a long story short, the order for the '01L was placed on 11/30/00. We have had the truck for 10 days and 1400 glorious miles. She never ceases to amaze. Guess mine will stop racking up the mileage so quickly. He justified the purchase with him needing a new tow vehicle. I didn't care....... as long as he is happy. https://www.f150online.com/f150board/smile.gif Hmmmm, now we have two red Beasts to keep clean (maybe we can do a few mods to mine now). https://www.f150online.com/f150board/biggrin.gif Next will be the new Focus SVT. We need something practical..... with good mileage..... but still has to be fun. Also, a new Escape with the KB supercharger would be great for hauling the puppies. Then I guess when I go through my mid-life crisis (will be 40 in 4 years), we will just have to have a Cobra convertible. Ahhhhh, life is good....... so many great vehicles........ so little money. hehe ------------------ Gloria 94 Lightning, daily driver 93 EB Explorer, 1000 RTI |
Enjoy the Mustang. I plan on purchasing a Mustang in a few years to compliment the L. Let the L sit in the garage and drive it on the weekends, make the Mustang my week-day warrior.
Of course, I'd get a silver Mustang. ------------------ 2000 Silver Lightning #2798 of 4966 Born on date: May 9, 2000 Email: ColinMBurns@hotmail.com http://www.tvdance.com/chrisfarley/4a.gif Mods: SnugLid, 20% tint |
What you really need is a 400+ RWHP Stang and a Lightning..........
Why make a tough decision, just have both. https://www.f150online.com/f150board/biggrin.gif BTW, That Chris Farley thing above kinda makes me ill. https://www.f150online.com/f150board/eek.gif ------------------ Scott Weatherford 351W 1993 LX 11.9 @ 118MPH (Drag Radials) Black 2001 Lightning 13.62 @ ??? I am 6ft 2in tall I rented A mustang on vacation.I won't be doing that again. Bob |
Well...with my height at 6'7" the new Stang lost it's charm pretty quickly....now if I can just find a way to move the L seat into the bed for somemore leg room....ha
|
I ran against an 01 GT last week. He stayed with me through 1st gear. After that he faded fast. He stayed about 4-5 car (truck)lengths back until 105 mph when I shut it down. We gave each other thumbs up.

I have personally been a long time Mustang fan and my most recent stang was a 00 GT Vert. I was a bit dissappointed with it. The performance was pretty good w/ the 5-speed, but the seats in that car were terrible. (you sit ON them instead of in them). Also, you see a million of them on the road....whereas the L is very comfortable for someone tall and seems to turn alot more heads on the street. Test driving the automatic GT was almost embarrassing it felt so slow.
So, after owning both cars...even with all the problems I am a much happier person w/ the 00 L. The cheaper insurance was icing on the cake! ------------------ Red 2000 Lightning No mods yet Work is driving an Airbus (will spank a Lightning by a few 100 knots ha-) |
