3.73:1 gears?

I read in the lastest editon of truck trend the new lightning has 3.73:1 gears vs. 00 edition of 3.55:1 grs.
Can someone please tell me alittle about this? I am clueless. Thanks, Will

The 3.73 gears will make the truck accelerate a little better because of the higher numerical, lower mechanical gearing. Like riding a mountain bike, if you go to a lower gear at a lower speed you can accelerate a little better. The engine will rev a little higher at highway speeds with the 3.73 gears. Hope this helps. By the way this does not alter the power of the truck just the speed that the truck makes the power.

Hilander: How much does the gear change cost, including installation?

Zeus,
I am not sure about the cost, However I have seen gears from 300.00 - 500.00. The install anywhere from 300.00 - 600.00. Maybe someone that has changed them could inform you better. I thought about gears but decided against it. I feel the differance is not wotth the hassle and price. Gears are pretty hard to set up and can whine. I think you would find the L harder to launch on the street especialy when you do other mods and have the rwhp up to around 400hp. All just IMHO.

True. And for the price, I could buy a chip, air filter, and new back tires...
