Post 01 drag strip....

Hey all, I have approx. 500 miles on my 01. Do you think its too early for the strip?? I've been really easy on it so far, with only a couple of WOT's.

Thumbs up

I took it easy on mine for the first 100 miles and then started street racing it. The first time I went to the track it had 400 miles. Never had any problems with my truck except for the time I let that girl drive

I think that its not wize to run a new vehicle hard until at least 1000 miles and after you dump your break-in oil.A new engine will bound to have all sorts of floating filings in it that can "scour" your motor and its valvetrain. You also won't get very good results being the truck isn't broken -in yet, leaving you frustrated. Not good for you or your truck.Just my .02 on the subject.

By the way , best way to break-in your engine is to vary engine speed, like your doing.Occasional WOT, varying the RPMs when you can, some quick sprints, around town stop & go's, etc..This way all your bearings, rod bolts and moving components will get their "stretch" and seat properly. This will insure the metals "forgiveness" later on when the stresses of hardriving is put on them.Of course, frequent oil changes will speed things up.I like to change the initial oil at 600-800 miles and the second at 1500.TRhis type of breakin is used alot by Motorcycle racing teams like Bob Muzzy and alike. They have cut the break-in time by 1/2 this way and go out racing *****-to-the-wall right after 1500 miles with no engine wear or failure after engine disassembly.True, bikes are more stress sensetive than V-8's, but its this type of insurance that lets us all sleep better at nights, right?

Thanks Mondo for the advice. I'm going to take the Saleen instead. I don't want to break my new truck!
