You guys, I am so mad. I don't know what to do...advice?

Okay, this all comes after 2 work days totalling 34 hours between the office and the store...so I am already a little cranky. I got off work last night at 1 am and came home to find that the city is citing me for 2 things. First of all they are citing me for parking on my lawn. Let me explain this...in Nov I was home (my mom and dad's) for a few minutes and it was very late (about 230) and I have already posted about this. When I came out of the house my truck was being broken into. I chased the SOB down and ran him on top of a fire hydrant. He got away because I didn't want to get shot so I went around the back of his truck and he climbed out the window and took off...anyway, being as it is winter, and the grass is dead, and I don't have an alarm installed I have been parking on the front lawn 5 feet from my doorstep (so I don't have to DRAG any bodies into my yard) Anyhow, my neighborhood used to be nice, but after so many years the ghetto is migrating in my general direction...another reason I am moving. We have owned this house for close to 20 years now. We rented it out when we were in Hawaii. I have had several vehicles broken into. I have a Mustang in the garage, a Mustang in the side drive, a 29 ft camper on the front drive, a 68 Ford pickup in front and a 98 ZX2 behind the camper. I REFUSE to park on the street because I am sick of getting robbed. Not just by these sorry bastards but by theinsurance company when I tried to settle up. ANYWAY, It says I have 7 days to comply and remove my vehicle from the lawn and I also have to get tags on the 66 Mustang because although they are valid the front plate is a drag plate from my track. I called this guy today who basically told me I WILL do it or I will wake up to no more truck...I responded to this by DARING him to try it. He asked if it was a threat and I told him I didn't give a damn how he took it just as long as he took it serious. Now maybe I reacted without thinking, but I didn't want to argue with the guy I was trying to have a civil conversation. Now I'm just mad. I don't know what to do. But I am super angry because in the summer time I CAN'T park in front of my house because the Mexican family next door has parties and they fill the whole street up. I won't even mention the MARIACHI band *No, I am not joking) in the backyard until 1 in the damn morning.

Yup, time to move. Fighting city hall is rarely rewarding and often frustrating. I'd offer some useful advice, but I'm not a lawyer, don't play one on TV and am likely to be helpfully wrong.

Move,
Parking on your lawn just makes the neiborhood even more trashy and rundown.
I live in a really nice area, however I have a neibor that sounds just like you. Motorhomes and cars all over the place !!!!!! pisses me off.
If I was your neibor I would be calling the city every day complaining about you and all the vehicles you have.
I realize you are saying you already live in a crappy neiborhood, and can't understand why the city is bothering little old you .... but your just adding to the overall problem of your hood going downhill.
So clean up your act and move.

First off ANGEL, MARIACHI bands are cool https://www.f150online.com/f150board/wink.gif No but seriously...From the sounds of it, I would have reacted the same way. There was a time I lived in a huge Town home development in NJ on a dead end road. Well, in the summer the parties of course would come about, and the parking would simply disapper by the time I would get home.
So I would do the same thing, park on the front lawn. Well after the 3rd or 4th time I did that. Someone in the development called the Township to complain, and of course they fined me 50 bucks. Come to find, the clown that repoted me was one of the clowns having the parties... https://www.f150online.com/f150board/frown.gif What a D I C K!!

Well, of course I eventually moved from those headaches. It might be time to do the same.

Oh..I was a driving my 91 GT stang at the time....god rest her soul https://www.f150online.com/f150board/smile.gif

CA,

Be practical and move so you can hold on to positive experiences and maximize the equity for it sounds as if it will be more of an issue in the future.

Best of luck....

Bob

Had similar issues in the past. Too many cars and toys not enough space. Rent a storage until until you can move. Move the camper into and RV storage place. Please tell me the camper doesn't fit your L. City hall can be complete pricks. Piss them off (I think you may have) the fun really begins. Find out your local ordanences regarding parking on your property. They could be wrong. Probably not but could happen. Bottom line store the excess until you move. Relieve yourself of the stress. Now it's time to go install Sal's new pulley that came in the mail today. Good luck to you.

It is a shame that your negborhood has sh*t the bed. I would say it is time for you to move to a safer place where you do not have to worry about your truck.
Fighting City hall can be a pain in the but, but if you belive you are right stand up for yourself, but be calm, and respectfull.
Good Luck
Don

Hmmm I think our little friend LIGHTFOOT has the wrong idea. I don't live in the HOOD YET and I am not doing anything that is cause for complaints. We have plenty of room for the vehicles that are parked at the house. I just don't like the idea of my Lightning having the passenger door face the street where I can't see it if something happens. I could understand if it was summertime and the neighbors yards were all green and I had a damned Pacer on blocks next to the trailer I live in. We live in a nice house and it is winter time. You can't even see the grass. It doesn't look ANY different than the neighbor across the street who has a driveway covering half of his front lawn. You would have to see it to realize what I am saying. I bet people ring your doorbell and set S*it on fire on your porch a lot huh? And why the hell shouldn't I park where ever I damn well please. I was raised in this neighborhood. It's MY damn yard. I'm not blocking the sideway so that people can't get by. I'm don't drag race down the street, smoke the tires or dodangerous things knowing that there are little kids all over the place. I parked my truck so that I can feel better at night knowing that there aren't a bunch of damned gang bangers breaking into her and stealing what I bust my ass hard everyday to have and I don't see anything wrong with that. And if you do then I feel sorry for you neighbors. I think they are the ones who should be complaining....

Stuff like this really pisses me off!!! First off the last time I checked it was a free country,or am I dreaming!!!! People should be able to do what they want with the things they have,BUT OH NO!!! If someone told me I couldn't park MY CAR in MY YARD,I'd probably park it in there house!! Hell I know some people live trashy, but that's them and well I have no right to tell them how to live, just like I have no right to force religion on them,my thoughts and belief's. This country will be communistic soon,as more and more stupid laws take our freedom away slowly but surely. ARRRRRGGHH!! I just can't take it. I'm sure you can do nothing about it,as they've already taking another right from you. Outta here!!!

I agree with Don. It's not easy to fight city hall but it's not impossible. City hall usually hides behind miles of red tapes, but there are usually just as much loops holes that you can fight back with.

I would suggest doing some research and confirm if the city can actually cite (and tow) your vehicle just because it is parked on a lawn. If the answer is "yes", then find out what is their definition of a "lawn" is. If I'm in your shoes, I just might consider turning part of my "lawn" into a nice driveway with pebbles or crush rocks... https://www.f150online.com/f150board/wink.gif Use your imagination, but calm down before you pick the fight. Good luck...

Lawn is where grass is supposed to be, not cars.
It is wintertime in Portland, and I still have grass in my front yard, what happened to your grass lightningirl ?
I know it is a free country and you should be able to do whatever you want and park your car where ever you want.
However most folks consider parking cars on the front lawn trashy, that is why most citys have ordinances against doing so.
Why buy a nice fancy truck when you have no place to park it where you feel it is safe ?
Perhaps you should re-evaluate your priorities and sell the truck and move to a nice area of town. Then when your happy with where you live........ then buy a nice fancy truck that you don't have to park on the lawn.

This is my last post on the subject, as I don't want to go down in flames from all you car nuts that do not care what your neiborhood looks like.

My .02:
You have a point in that you should be able to park in your yard, seeing how it is a free country (limited freedom, though), but on the other hand, common sense says get a bigger garage or a house with a bigger garage. Maybe, get some motion-detecting lights for the front of your house: a cheap and simple way to stop SOME crime.
Get a dog.

Go get a load of gravel and dump it on your lawn right where you want to park. Then you aren't parking in your lawn anymore, you're in your new driveway.
I don't think I could sleep if I didn't have a garage to lock up my toys at night.
