THOR01'S FIRST KILL!! "SS"
Just beat a moded SS!
I was at my buds house doing some fine tuning on my L and on my way home pulled off the E-way when i see an "SS" at the light. No open spaces next to him so i waited for the light behind him.
I could see his head moving in the mirror to see what was behind him! He took off slow and with the help of my fog lights noticed a performance exhaust. So i turned down the tunes and it sounded healthy!
As soon as i got a clear shot i was next to him. So he looks at me and i motion to go! We were at about 35mph, he starts off and im next to him and I start pulling! We slam on the brakes due to traffic ahead of us. His front bumper was at my rear when we stopped! I rolled down the window and asked what he had done to his SS.
T-body headers and mufflers! He asked back, "what year lightning?" I said an 01! "oh yea" what mods? I said! None! It's not even broken in!
I don't think he was as happy with his mods after! he,he,he.

Wow! that's real good. I found that before the chip my 2000 L would not down shift at 35mph. The SS(LS1)that I raced was a stick and would always jump 1/2 car on me because I was in second. Does the 2001 down shift at that speed or was the SS an auto? Cause if you did not down shift and it was a stick then you just took out an SS at pretty much it's strongest point (Not counting 100mph plus) against our L's weak point. Good Job.
Just re-read your post, thought it was an LS1. Was it?

I also noticed the LT1 C5s arent much competition. But I think the one I came across was untuned.

All the C5s are LS1s. They usually run low 13s un modded. So far (probably because it's not broken in yet) my 98 C5 6spd would dust my 01L terribly. Actually, my C5 was somewhat of a dog when I first got it. It started to "wake up" around 5K. I'm assuming my L will do the same. All in all, I'll take my L over the C5 any day!!! As soon as someone has a proven chip for the 01s it'll be on there. I've been driving the 69 regularly since selling the C5 three weeks ago. That's probably why the L doesn't seem as fast.

Thanks guys! The SS was an Auto! I had my overdrive off and the truck was in third, shifted down to 2nd. The truck pulled strong. He said a roll was his weak point on the car. Needed to go off a light. "When i get my new meats on the back'" i said!!

Good kill, but I'm still a little confused what it was you raced. 454SS truck, LT1 Z28 SS, LS1 Z28 SS, Impala SS, Monte Carlo SS, Cavalier SS (kidding on that one), etc. It seems like GM slaps "SS" and anything with an appearance package, so a little more info would've been helpful. I'm guessing a Z28 SS of some type, because none of the other vehicles I mentioned would be worth your gas. Sounds like those 01's are pretty strong. My chip/filtered '00 ran about dead even with an M6 LS1 TA from a roll recently, so the '01s are definitely stronger.

By the way I had seen your times you ran at the track! You did good not having the truck for long!! I still have yet, to get my launches down. I practice at every light just about.
I just wen't over the 600 mile mark on the ODO. It's taking forever with this weather. Anyway, Go do some of that California Chebby A$$ kick'en!!!

Good kill. As you can see I'm a SS owner. Tundra and I regularly race, when the white stuff isn't on the ground, and it's usually a damn close race. Sounds like you have a pretty fast truck. Don't really know anything about the A4 SS as far as when it downshifts, but would assume you caught it at a point when it was already locked into that gear, good for you, bad for the SS owner, hahaha. Tundra and I have played around a few times from a roll, or actually from just cruising down the road. He has easily taken me when I'm in the wrong gear. But If I know it's coming and ride my gears out to redline to be sure to be in my powerband when we jump on it, it's no contest.
