If the Gen III where to come out tomorrow...
#4
Well I was thinking the same exact thing the other day. Do I...
a) Go out and get my brand new Lightning right away and probably pay a ridicules markup price and have to worry about first year bugs and glitches or do I...
b) Patiently wait it out... wait till the last year of production for all the bug fixes and on top of that, new and better cosmetic changes and upgrades. Oh and let's not forget the slammin' deals people where getting on the 04's....some near invoice. Also, the first years didn't have the horsepower (stock) of the later years too. Hmmm option b sounds like a much better deal to me.
However, if the new L has the same jump in looks as the gen I to the gen II, I will definitely have a hard time NOT jumping into one right away. Oh, and like was mentioned above, no extended cab.... they just don't look or feel sporty. Keep the roomy Harley and sporty Lightning two separate things.

It will be very nice but a little fat.

It's planned for the next F-150 body style I believe.
All the companies are going the wrong way in terms of the sport truck. It just can't be made on a 5200lb platform and expect to perform or cost anywhere near our Gen 2s.

But many would still want the bragging rights of a 500hp engine, even if a 6 cylinder BMW 335 (and many others) will outperform you in every aspect. Despite having the worst fuel economy in its class, the Tundra with the 5.7 is selling at 3 times Toyota's forecast.
I wonder how well, all these gaz guzzlers will be selling when we hit $100/brl. A US gallon would be $4.25 to nearly $5. We are at $75.56 today, up another .60. When the Gen2 Lightning was introduced, oil was trading between $15 and $23/brl.
