Why is everyone selling their L's?

Seems like everytime I check this board there is another 99 or 00 L up for sale.

Maybe I am just getting old, but from my point of view you don't go trading around $28,000 to 32,000 cars every year or so. It seems to be an extreme measure to take a $5000 to $10,000 loss on a one or two year old vehicle.

I hope to get another L in about 10 years and keep this one as well.

Not me..I am selling my 99 Trans Am to BUY a new 2001 L. Interesting story...I was with my cousin (owns a 99L) and we were talking about which one was fastest. He drove mine, I drove his. I am ending up buying a new L and he is trading for a new Trans Am. Go figure,,,,, we discussed trading each other, but we both want new with zero miles.

In the last six years I have leased six vehicles, two of which are still in my possession. My wife is on her fourth. None of these leases were for less than three years.

It may seem crazy, but in no breaking of a lease was there ever more than $1,500.00 handed out and no money was ever put down at the start. And in each case the lease was for FAR less than a Ford or GM financed lease.

Sometimes you get bored with the vehicle or it gets an improvement in the following model year that you really want. But what it really boils down to is having a little cash kicking around. That's why we work hard to earn it. So we can use it.

If I was able to buy these trucks on an A-plan or X-plan, it would be even easier.

Does any of this make sense??

I want the clear corners, shorter diff ratio and the FIXED intercooler. So I sold my 99 and am saving the payments until the 2001 comes. The 99 had 24k miles.

Difference after taxes was Can$9000.

The last SS Camaro (2002) is SUPPOSED to come with the LS6 motor package. First I heard it was turbos, then supercharges now the LS6 package, and I think the last one is more or less what's going to happen. But all of this is hear say...so don't take me too seriously.

One reason why i am not selling my 2000 L for a new one,( I can sell mine for $26k and buy a new one for $28k) Is the fact that I will be in line for the 2002 WS6 Soon as it comes out.I dont want to give up the year i have in payments on a new one.I WILL Own a 2002 trans am.I always wanted one and these are probally the last year for them.

mracer Jan 19, 2001 05:09 PM

Hey What04, I see your point about the lease but I bought mine outright and I would take a big loss on it if I were to trade.

I would never, ever, even think about leasing a vehicle, so we are looking at this from opposite ends of the spectrum. https://www.f150online.com/f150board/smile.gif

FYI, Chances are there will be NO LS6 in the last-hoorah F-body. I belive, Scott Settlemeyer, the F-body brand manager at GM, has said so; and it's been published in a lot of mags too. They are done in 2002; to me, tooling would have to already be getting ready to do it if it was a go.

Can you say, Holden Commodore SS?

LightStruck Jan 20, 2001 02:05 PM

Whazzat???

BDAZSVT Jan 20, 2001 03:24 PM

Auto Week mag reports that GM will continue producing F-bodies as long as they are profitable but will make no changes to them. Which to me says GM will sell anything that will make them money but will not take a risk or supply performance cars to performance oriented people. GM just wants your money ?!

Just because there has been no new tooling for a 2003 f-body doesn't mean that there won't be a 2003 f-body. GM could decide to continue to build the current body style till whenever. The only thing they would have to change is to meet the FMVSS 201 U head impact requirements. And that wouldn't long to incorporate. I hear things that make me think that the f-body is not going to be gone for long if production does stop in 2002! WHO KNOWS?

The only thing leaving is the F-body itself...the Camaro and Trans-Am names will probably return on some other body. Here's proof...Thunderbird, Caprice, Malibu (no Chevelle though). Most reincarnations pale in comparison to their former selves, though.
