Porterfield Brake Pads - Review
Review of Porterfield R4-S front brake pads. I am using Ford HD brake fluid. Stock pads lasted me about 4000 miles.
Part number for pads is here: https://www.f150online.com/f150board...ML/007688.html
When pads are cold: They perform exactly as stock - initial bite, stopping force same as stock.
When pads are warmed up: They perform significantly better than stock. Initial bite is much better. Braking forces are much improved - the front does a serious nose-dive at 25% pedal pressure. More responsive, but not grabby.
When pads are over-heated: fade is worse than stock
Fade starts a little later, but when they fade...they go fast. Very quickly it's impossible to activate ABS - with pedal on the floor. Recovery from fade is slower than stock.
No squeal at all. Dont know about dust yet.
Summary: If you're happy with the stock pads, you'll be much happier with these pads. I would recommend the pads for street driving, even autocrossing, but not road-racing.

P.S. I have a set of Hawk HP+ on order... I will throw those in after the new year and test those too.

Have you ordered the Performance Friction pads yet. If not, I might and test them out.
BTW, I might need to get new tires sooner than expected. Last night, I drove by a construction site and ended up with a bolt dead center in one of my rear tires. It was noisy until the head and washer ground off.
My auto insurance may pay for one of the tires. But, since I should get two, why not replace all four? What do you think?

George:
Nathan has PF pads: https://www.f150online.com/f150board...ML/007665.html Reading his post, I think the PF pads are more aggresive than the Porterfield... better suited for a road-course.
About the tires, i've had good luck with tire patch-plug's (looks like a patch with a spike sticking out of it; the tire must be dismounted and patch installed inside)... know lots of people who have raced on a patched tire (including me) - no problems.
But if you want to change tires... who am I to stop you
Did you have something like this in mind:
(brand new hoosier)

I'd like to do just the patch, but knowing that the tire rating is lost (so I'm told) would bother me. The bolt in the tire is 1/4" diameter.
How did you know I was going to use Hoosiers as my street tire? I'll have to go easy on the throttle as I drive by the early morning irrigation on the road to the freeway.
Seriously, though, what would be a good replacement if I decide to replace the tires?

1/4"... Impressive!
For a street tire:
BFGoodrich Comp T/A - 295/45/18
Pirelli P-Zero - 285/45/18 (love mine).
You might be able to find a stock tire for cheap from Forum member who have upgraded their wheels...
