F'ing Rust!!! Wtf???
 

So, I've a got an 00 L with about 55K miles on the odom. After sitting in the garage for the winter (as it does every winter), I've got rust rippling under the paint on the front lip of the hood and underneath the hood!!! Anyone else experience this? Any idea what I should expect to pay to have the hood repainted? This is BS! The truck hardly gets driven anymore and all paint is in excellent condition except for this now! Arhhhhhhhhh. Ok, thanks for listening to me vent. :mad:

Just buy an aftermarket replacement hood and have that painted to match.You can probably get the hood for less than $100.

Its not rust on the hood.

The hood is aluminum you know! Not prone to rust like steel is. The rust may be caused from humidity in the garage and just be superficial as there is very little paint on the underside of the hood from the factory.

I'm getting the underside of my hood painted next week (for show purposes). I got estimates from 150. to 345....I'm going with the 150 of course as I'm covering a large portion of it with polished SS on which will be some custom etching.

It would be some type of oxidation as stated above by Ed, they are Aluminum.

I've got a bubble front right near center on the hood. While on the lift last week I noticed bubbling on the rear bumber near the edges.

Have the vehicle sprayed with krown or Rust Check before storage and it will stay good as new. Humidity will cause corrosion in the long-term.

I've got a 2000 with the paint bubbling on the hood leading edge too. Oxidation sucks.

That's a paint issue, not rust. Keep in mind that your vehicle is 7 years old.

If you guys think Ford has paint issues, you should talk to some GM owners.:eek:

I have the same things going on with my 2000. Bubbling right on the lip.

Not a big deal until it flakes off I guess....

When I bought my truck four years ago it was one of four 2000's on the lot and was the only one without this issue. My paint started to bubble about two years ago.

My 00 has had it for year. Funny thing is it started, but never seemed to get worse.

Something to so with the bonding material when they seem the hood together.

My fathers 00 had it too.

I know of 2 other local guys with 2000's that have it.

I've been waiting for it to get worse so i can put an aftermarket hood, but it never has, so.......i'll live with it.

On another note, i noticed the inside seem of my drivers door is starting to bubble. Not driven in the rain but it does get wet when parked. No snow and salt though.

I also just had it on my 2000 right on the Lip in 2 spots. ****** ford and there paint. I also have this issue with my truck as well. I know the paint look dark blue but it is black :eek: . I used the flash on a sunny day. Don't ask why. But it's happening on a few places on the truck

I had HUGE bubbles on my 01, but under the hood. Its a known problem that even a non svt dealer knew about (atleast by the hood latch deal on the hood).

my problem was caused by 3 different metals contacting in 1 spot. the hood, the latch hoop, and the bolts are all different metals. This causes the aluminum to corrode quickly. My 5yr paint warranty picked up the tab on that one.

I will throw out a theory, although it is probably wrong. The hood is spot welded (i think) and these welds might have small amounts of material from the weld tip deposited on the hood. 2 different metals react and you get corrosion.

Like I said, its just a theory....
