Question gears ?

I was thinking about getting 3.73 gears. I was told by a couple local performance shops who have worked on newer L's that the parts would be hard to find. Anyone know where i can get the parts i need? Ford Racing?

I'm new to the "L"'s but not to racing..I understand a chip and filter kit will give you much more perf. gain then $1000+ for gears...I have the R9 super chip and soon the PSP filter..The chip really woke the L up..Its up to you..I can't get mine to hook up with the 3.55's.

My 4.10 gears cost $550 installed. Check out your local ford dealer for the motor sports gears

Well, that was going to be my next change, but I cannot seem to find the 4.10s. The 3.73s seem easy enough to locate.
I would go with Jegs or Summit to get the gears.

Question

Hey Wrightlightning,
Ford Racing 2000 Catalog
Pg 95-Part # M-4209-H373 (9.75 FMS Gears) $ 199.99
Don't believe it, more like ($255.00)
Use the FMS gears, your old shims maybe reused.

I may be interested in a swap for the FMS 4.10s I took out of my L for a set of 3.73s

Question

Trackboy,
The chip needs to be recalibrated for speedo and tach accuracy, where the pcm picks the shift points up from.
Dealers can only re-calibrate for 3.73s in the stock pcm.

Cool

Hey Guys,

Doing a gear switch is not a lot of $$. A 3:73 or a 4:10 gear should not cost more $180.00 to $200.00 plus installation.I just changed out my recently installed 3:73 for a 4:10.Anybody interested please post me a note uni4money@aol.com. The only thing it will effect is the speedo. So you will have to have your chip reburned.
