E'town wants a driveshaft loop!
Just a warning - I called Englishtown today, and their tech inspection will require a driveshaft loop if you are running 13.99 or quicker, regardless of the type of tires you are running.
The NHRA rule says 13.99 and quicker w/ slicks, but E'town is going to be more strict on it. there is a shop here in town that has them for 93-99 "L" for $89. I have been meaning to call them on it. Seems reasonable though

I honestly thought the NHRA rule was 13.99 _or_ slicks. Meaning that if you run 13.99 or faster, it doesn't matter what tire you have...you need a loop. You are probably right. I've just never been called on it before. I know there are a lot of Ls out there w/o loops, and I wanted to warn any that were coming to E'town. Thankfully, I think I've found one, and a place to install it. Ford advertised the '96 Cobra as 13.99, too (pretty darn accurate, btw)...and it didn't get one.

Like I said yesterday, PETE WILL be a ball buster about the loops. If it were a regular day (test&tune) then it would not be a problem, but since it's a big event, he needs to stick with the book.....trust me, I have been through this before with him. Please excuse my ignorence, but this is how we learn by asking stupid ?'s. What is a DS Loop, what does it do, and why is it necissary that I have one?

Dave, it's a drive shaft loop. it goes 360 degrees around the driveshaft. it contains the shaft in case of a u joint explosion. you wouldn't want to pole vault would you? Not a pretty sight! Lloyd

I've had a front u-joint explode once, luckily I was only going about 20. Sounded like a war under the car though. (driveshaft was still connected to the rear axle, & whipping into the floor and asphalt, sounded like a full scale war!) I can only imagine what that would be like at 100+ mph or more! Lloyd

When I was in college a guy (a mid 60's 'greaser') was racing up and down State Street in front of the Fieldhouse showing off on a warm night. His front u-joint broke just as he passed our balcony and the engine overreved and blew apart. He continued for about 100 yards before the front of his driveshaft hit a crack/pothole and lifted the rear end WAY in the air. He didn't go over, but it sure made a mess under his car! I still smile when when I think of the verbal bashing he took from the 'pin-heads'.
