How Much Ping Is Too Much Ping?
Put my Pro-M MAF Sensor on the beast with the R9 chip to see if it would ping. (It pinged with a PSP chip)
At around 4500 RPM in 2nd and the same in 3rd gear the engine starts to ping until it shifts. You can audibly hear about 10 pings.
My question is this: I know we don't want any ping but is this considered REALLY bad ping?
Your thoughts are most appreciated.

I would agree, any ping is unacceptable.
I have an Airraid w/ R9 and over about 4800 rpms in 3rd or 4th it literally sounds like a drumroll its so bad.

You cannot use the Pro-M with the R9 program without a compensation in most cases.
Those Pro-M MAF's are very inconsistent in their calibrations, and when they're dead-on, at best they only lean out the A/F ratio by half a point. But we've seen them lean out the A/F by as much as 2 full points, and that is too lean.
Notice you didn't get any detonation with the R9 program until you installed the Pro-M, that should tell you something there.
In your case, your Pro-M's calibration is obviously off, and is leaning out the motor too much. If you want to use it safely with the R9 program, you'll need to have a custom program done for it. Until you have that done, take the Pro-M off.

Sam,
If your detonation is *that* bad, you should tell *us* that. You and I spoke just day before yesterday about this, and you were going to try another brand of fuel (in this case, Texaco) to see if it was just a problem with that particular brand of gas you had in there, which was Citgo, or if this is something that is affecting other brands as well. We have heard *nothing* back from you since we discussed this with you just day before yesterday, yet you are now here describing detonation that sounds to me far worse than in our discussions.
If you are now claiming that your detonation "literally sounds like a drumroll it's so bad", then this is something you have *not* mentioned to us, and is not acceptable to run the vehicle like that.
If you are getting detonation like you have just described, then you should do 2 things: first, tell us about it, and second, not run the vehicle in that condition, obviously.
Please contact us and we'll be happy to go ahead and do whatever adjustments are required for your fuel formulations out there, and we'll both be much happier, I'm sure.
We're happy to do whatever is requried, but you have to let us know about it, Sam. I was a bit shocked to see your description here being different from what we discussed just 2 days after our conversation.
So let's get this taken care of, shall we?

The other day Mike of superchips posted that their chip may have to be reburned if maf is added due to lean condition caused by fact that maf will allow more air to enter supercharger when compared to the stock unit. Any ping is to much ping.

Running Swanson's chip with a Pro-M and I have no ping, nada, zip. Danny says that it is set for an air/fuel ratio of 12.4:1. Just wondering what the rest of you techies think is the optimal air/fuel ratio for an L?
