Does anybody have on it on good authority that Ford will even build the Lightning beyond 2001 model year? I believe they only built the generation one Lightning from '93 through '95. Of course, they might continue considering all the Cobra problems SVT has been having.

Any response?

Redlight,

My SVT video says they planned it for 6 model years, and culkminating in 2005. I guess to introduce another body style or something. Maybe by 2009 there will be a 3rd generation Lightning that runs off Natural Gas or something.

Bill
I was planning on editing it anyways, it seems as if know really cared about that post anyhow. It really made the poppet valve cylinder head design look like ancient technology. I will get my hands on something like that in the future.

The Lightning is budget approved through the '05 MY Total project cost was for recovery after 6 model years.

Question

All this talk of horsepower and torque has me curious...

Who would win a tug of war between a Lightning and a F350 with Powerstroke Diesel?

Silverbullet,

"HP meaning nothing...
it is based/caused by torque"

I'm swapping my stock motor for powerstroke. Then I will have the fastest Lightning! If Torque is all that matters!

Tundra:

I just gotta know.

Did your imagination see what I saw, or am I severely warped? On second thought I can answer the second part, but give me your honest opinion on the first part.

And, I was intrigued by the concept and did download their stuff. $15K plus probably about the same in labor made me think I might better spend $60K on something else than a Lightning with that setup.

About that coates heads I read about it in a Hot rod mag and it said somthing about ford being part of the development team. So in the future we might see these heads on some fords. Maybe 12 years.
Please correct me if im wrong.(you don't have to though)

The PSD has 500 lb/ft of torque, so I bet on it.

I have seen the Coates heads on Display at the SEMA show a couple times in the last few years. I believe they have shopped it but have no takers. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting to see it on any production car in the near future. Neat idea though.
