Belt slipping????
 

I have had my L now for a few weeks and I have a small problem. It's probably not unique if I had to guess. During full acceleration, when the transmission shifts one of the belts squeak. Has anyone ever had this problem? If so, what belt did you change? I realize it would be fairly inexpensive to replace both of them, but if only one is slipping no sense in getting two?

Has anyone ever had this problem? If so, what belt was the problem?

get a metco idler kit from chickenears.com and an ultra-grip pulley from reichardracing.com and you'll be set....oh, a gates green stripe belt will last a lot longer with that pulley than a gator-back will.

If you do a "search" on here, you'll find a lot of info on "slipping belts" - what signs to look for if it's the blower belt or FEAD belt.

Unless you have changed blower pulleys and just recently noticed some possible belt slippage, there's no need to install a blower belt "idler" kit on a stock motor. If you have recently installed different pulleys (or someone else had in the past) and you're experiencing belt slippage, an "idler" kit may be useful or breaking off the tensioner tab may help. However, before you consider purchasing any idler kit, I'd suggest doing a "search" on here for the diffferent types available, as many prefer the Magnum Powers idler kit for some specific reasons.

Those Reichard idlers sure will cut slippage to a minimum - but be prepared for shorter belt life.

Try a new belt first. :coffee:

+1 on a new belt. ditch the gator back and go with a gates/napa belt.

if that doesnt stop it id then go to the metco idler setup. then if you still have slip id go to the RR pulley. if you still have belt slip get a RR manual tensioner

I'm betting it's the Accessory belt.

do you know gates/napa belt part # with the 4# lower pulley?

the Idler pulley should be on the PASSENGER side of the Blower snout, not the driver's side.

The belt coming off the crank "pulls" the blower pulley, instead of "pushing it" to turn (if that makes sense). therefore you want the idler on the passenger side. (like the Magnum powers idler bracket)

but belt the added belt wrap helps none the less....
