Angry Here We Go Again!!!!

A few weeks ago...my truck died on me a few times (only when the truck was hot it seemed). I trouble shot it...and thought I found the problem with my IAC. I replaced it and it started right up. Well...a few days later it did it again. And took it to Ford here locally and they would check it...and nothing. I would pick it back up and a day later...it would happen again (leaving me stranded). Well...it finally died on me. Basically...was driving along coming off a stop light and ...it just died. Got an SES light...blinking theft light....and dashes on the odometer. The truck will just turn over and over and over and over. Also...I DO NOT hear the fuel pumps when I turn the key to the on position.

Take you back a bit....we had some flooding a few weeks ago and I was driving through the water and hit a few areas up past the front bumper. I felt the truck "bog" down a couple of times and then...keep on going. No biggie I thought...until it sputtered and died the first time. I found water in my MAF and Mafia extender.

Well...my truck has been sitting at Ford for the last 4 days and I am begining to think these guys are clueless They can't even tell me what is wrong. Everytime I call...it is the same thing..."were working on it". So...I drive up there and see for myself. They have some guy out in the parking lot and he is asking questions like, "man...what does this do...and what does that do"? I was like.... "Aren't YOU the tech"?

Additionally...something that is weird....IF I unplug the connector to the IAC...the fuel pumps cut on (but stay on). Then I will hear the two fuses for the pumps "clicking". Strange indeed

Anyone have any idea because these Ford techs are clueless

Check the resistor behind the front bumper cover.

if you had water in your MAF, it might have went up a little further and into the motor, not good. Not sure if it would show it but maybe check the oil to see if there is water in it.

Man....that is NOT what I wanted to hear

The guy at Ford called right before they closed and said that it may be my PCM...they think it is fried.

I need a drink

I had a lot of strange problems like that and it turned out to be a bad battery. The battery would show about 12 volts with no load and then drop to 4 volts with load

At this point....I would pay $500 just to get my truck back. I thought I read somewhere about someone with a bad battery. But...it is only 2 years old. Could they go bad that quick?

Doug!! Haven't seen you on the boards much lately.

To answer you...yes...I pulled it out (was the first thing I checked). Still nothing.

I will have the battery checked. This just has me perplexed

Battery pulling 12volts on a load...so it is good. Ford tech calls me the other day and says that he "thinks" it is the PCM...so they ordered a new one. He says they are warranted for 8yr/80,000 miles I didn't know that. So...essentially...I don't have to pay for it. Hope that fixes it.

Before you go out and buy a new PCM try this...

Disconnect your battery positive lead
Now go to your fire wall passenger side where you will find the big plug that connects the wire harness to your computer.
Losen the 10 mm bolt that holds your computer to the wire harness.
Now remove your computer
inspect your connections and make sure you do not still have some water in the connections.
Blow out the harness plug
then carefully clean the prongs on the PCM
remove the chip and carefully clean the matting areas of the chip and then the PCM

Now put it all back together
Put your key in and turn the pwr on but dont start it
You will see the gages sweep all the way to the left and then back to zero.
Now your ready to start it up.

Hope this helps,

God Bless,

Suavy

Chad, 12v sounds low to me. For long battery life a battery should not be taken below 50% before recharging.

State of Charge, Specific Gravity, Voltage

100%, 1.265, 12.7
75%, 1.225, 12.4
50%, 1.190, 12.2
25%, 1.155, 12.0
Discharged, 1.120, 11.9

Good luck with it.
