Smile Finally!!!

Well after many years of obsessing, I finally own a Lightning. I've been a fan of these trucks for the past 5 years and two weeks ago I got the chance to buy one. My fiance found me the truck and helped me to get it. (she knows how much I love Lightnings) It's a 2000 Red Lightning and is completely stock (except for a Flowmaster cat-back, which I hope to change to Bassani) with low miles. The only other different things are a few billet pieces under the hood and a Pioneer CD player. I love driving it around and am always finding excuses to take it out.

Now I had a couple questions. Do the superchargers make a grinding noise? (almost like the bearings are grinding) I talked to the dealership and they assured me that all Lightning blowers make that noise, some even louder than mine.

Now I love the truck, but the dealership is giving me a hard time so far. I've owned it for almost two weeks and have been to the dealership two times already. One for an alighnment and the other is that I hear almost a creaking/clunking sound when I go foward or reverse and the wheel is turned all the way to the right or left. I got the extended 3yr./36,000 mile warrany so I don't care about the work getting done, but I want to spend more time driving and less time waiting.

Also, which intake is a better bang for the buck? I don't want to start a war or anything, but I was looking at either JLT, K&N, Air Raid, or JLP. I'm still learning how to drive the truck stock, so I just wanted to start off slow with an intake and work my way up. (I'm going from a 160hp 1995 Grand Prix to over double the power and torque, so please stay with me) Other than that, the Lightning is great and it was well worth the wait. Sorry about the long post, but I finally had the chance and could'nt wait to post this. I've been a member on here for quite a while (haven't posted alot) and have to say this is one of the most helpful forums I've ever seen. I'll try and post pictures when I get a chance. Thanks.

Welcome. Your clunk can be fixed by installing the Clunk washers. Check to see if you have a factory lower blower pulley. You will get a louder noise from the blower when a lower is installed and the factory caged pulley is removed, it dampens harmonics and noise.

Here is a link to the clunk washers.

basically Fomoco dropped the ball on this and they put a round bolt into a oval hole(allighment) and thought that making it really tight would do the trick. It didn't and most loosen up enough that it makes a clunking noise on sharp turns.
Common problem and easy fix.

congrats and welcome

The noise you hear near the blower, could be one of the upper idler pullies. With a dry bearing. It will sometimes sound like its coming from the supercharger. Would be a good place to check I have an 01 and had to change the 2 upper idler pullies. Enjoy your new ride!! Great color choice!! Artie

For intakes I would check out either Power Surge Performance or Chickenears. PSP sells the Fast Air System and Chickenears sells the coolaid, both awsome products.

PSP - http://www.powersurgeperformance.net...hp?cPath=56_33

Chickenears - http://www.chickenears.com/cool_aid.htm

Good luck with the new truck.
