Question Lightning 87octane settings with chip

The lightning is programmed to run on 87 octane according to some posts. If you take it to the dealer and have them reflashed and if you have a superchip in the truck that you plan on taking out before the dealership visit. How does that effect the truck do you then need the chip reprogrammed? Why do we need to buy a chip if the dealer can go into the computer and change things? Please advise also Mike We would like your feedback. THanks.

Do not recall reading any post on Lightnings using 87 octane gasoline. They require premium with a rating of at least 91, if I remember correctly.

I use to Live in Germany but worked all over Europe for 9 1/2 years. When I left Germany in 1993 it was about $3.75-$4.00 for Super. England was about the same price within a dime or two. The worst was Norway if I remember for a 3.875 Liters of Superit was realy high!!!! The Dollar exchange rate was realy bad and I was paid in US bucks.

Hey redlite, are you sure your computer is set to premium fuel or regular(87 octane). Mine was set to regular but now it is premium.

Thumbs up

Yeah, but the last time I was in Europe, we had to fill up on the friggin side of the road. We just blocked off a lane of traffic with our bus and filled up like it was no big deal! A lack of gas "stations" AND y'all drive on the wrong side of the road..I'll stick with Texas and my 93 octane.

2000Blackbolt, I have no idea what the octane setting is. I think my 99 will run on 87 because apparently that was the dealer junk gas the dealer had put in the tank when I went for a test drive but before I bought the truck. I did not hear any pinging or other odd noises.

I took it in to Elder Ford in Troy. Please read the thread I started titled 2000L Program Code Update!!! There is more info there.

Nathan: I didn't know where it was set from the factory. I just took it in to make sure it was set to premium. There are many adjustments that can be made on our computers.

Yes, how do you know what octane setting you have. I was under the impression that the stock computers do not have any adjustment capabilities built into them ...
