I gotta slick question
 

Question about M/T street and "drag" slicks. I think I might be able to get as pair of the discontinued 16in M/T drag slicks, but if that falls through I will get the "street" slicks. The "drag" slicks are for 9in rims but was told they will work with 8 to 10s. Is it better to go with the narrow rim or the wider rim. Whats the pros and cons of each. Was told that there are differing opinions and reasons on this. I will make my decision with the majority opinion. If I do have to get the "street" slicks I will probably go with the wider rim. If there are more "drag" slicks available I will post where I found them if anyone is interested. Thanks in advance.

After Friday nite it seems some sort of slick is the answer. These F1s spin like they were coated with banana oil. BF Goodrich makes some comp TA drag radials in 16" and 17". The 315/35R17 look like the widest which I think would be the best for us. Where can we get cheap 17" wheels for are gen truck. The 17" on the gen I L have a different bolt pattern.

You can use the 17" rims that come on the Expedition, Navigator and F-150's, if I am not mistaken. I used the 16" steel wheels from the Exp. and F-150 for snow wheels.

This is a picture of my truck with 17x10 inch Centerline wheels. I have Kumhos on the front and TAs on the back. They are better than F-1s, but I can still break them loose easily in first gear. I'm selling the whole set in the classified section.

Just pickup up some 255/50R16 BFG Drag Radials. We'll see how they do Friday nite. There are what Jarrod has been running. They seem to help him.

Hey Caka,
Go with the DR's. They work great. Lowered the 60ft times from 2.10's to 1.96-1.98's. And that is just in one outing. Wait till I get them dialed in. Plus you get the lower rear drive ratio by having a smaller diameter tire. Around 3:89 or something.

I was gonna go with the drag radials until I saw Andre smoke his a time or two. I want to get the best traction possible, no ifs ands or buts. I feel the "street" slicks like Wildman has would be a better buy. They seem to do well for him and he is pushing more power than us. If I can get the "drag" slicks they have to be even a little better. Correct me if I am wrong.

You're right. That's why I'm selling my DRs. Unless the track is prepped right, they are only marginally better than F-1s.

Caka-Remember that when you saw Andre smoke the DRs he has a 373 Rear. Jerrods rear is stock and he was hooking up pretty good Friday nite. I got a set today and will try them out Friday nite. I think an additional benefit will be the ability to launch at higher than idle which by power staging should improve my reaction times. are you gonna make it Friday nite?

After I get the slicks my next step is 3.73 gears, thats why I want the best tires available. Then when I start going for more power, like Nos, exhaust and so on,I want the best traction possible. I want to be able to run mid 12s so I want to prepare now.
