Question Starting problems

Has anyone experienced this same problem?
After reinstaaling a reburned Superchip, about 7 hours later, the L would not start. When I turned the key the starter spun and I heard a clicking from the left front firewall area(sounds like a relay). The reason I ask is if I let her sit for a few seconds she fires up. I need to know because i if I go to the dealer I need to pull the chip and the Downs filter kit.

You shouldnt need to pull the filter kit when you take it into the dealer. I've had two F-150s and a Ranger all with filters and all serviced by different dealers with no problem. The first F-150 even got a $1400 engine rebuild. I would remove the chip though.

Hello all...

I do not have a chip or anything done to my 99 and it has a intermitent starting problem.. Every once in awhile it will tunrn over a few times then stall.. It always starts right up on the next crank so I have not worried to much about it..

Turns out it is a loose connection between the chip and the computer. I know this because it died twice on me on the expressway and after pulling the chip all is well. Superchip will be getting it back again to either fix, replace or refund.

The problem was that some of the edge connectors on the L, were shorter than others. The shorter ones, needed a bit of work to fit the chip properly. Mike Troyer can give you the full story. I had the advantage of a factory installation, and everything was made nice and snug. Of course tape should also be used.

The chip was installed once and returned due to lack of power(5hp gain) and reburned. What probebly happened was the contacts spread out.
ps. it was taped in place.

Did you straighten out the bracket that the computer mounts to? This bracket wraps around the computer module right where the superchip attaches. In factory form, the edge of the bracket is positioned between the computer and the supeerchip and can wedge the superchip loose even with duct tape on it.
Try this if you haven' already, several of us had that problem when we first got our chips.

Good Luck,
