Transmission problem??

Recently I have noticed my truck seems to have an "extra" shift. I'm sure it's the torque convertor lockup but it's really noticeable, like I have a 5 speed automatic. Even with the overdrive off it still shifts 4 times. I have been having performance problems at the track(slower ET's) and wonder if this is the problem. Any ideas or is it just me :(

Gregg, help :bows:

I don't think it's the problem, for what it's worth. When the intermediate clutch starts to get almost dead, you'll see some lower trap speeds and that's what usually happens. The converter lockup can be real noticable at WOT. It will lock up on both he 2-3 and the 3-4 shifts, depending on how you drive it, the weather, barometer and who knows what if you have a chip.

Mine seems to do that also?

If I am understanding your description, mine also has recently seemed to develop an "extra shift" between 2nd and 3rd gear. Still runs great, but I'd like to know WTF is going on... The issue on my truck happened shortly after I installed a 6# lower (stock block)...

Is this something that has shown up recently ? Did it do it before your last tuning session ? How about the trip to LFest ?

I can't help with answers. Mine just has an "extra shift" in third. If I could though... I really have to mash the pedal to kick it down, out of overdrive. It'll hang there for a long time going up a hill and such. It'll stay in overdrive down to like 30mph. Are they all like that?

Sounds like a lot of people "issues" are just the feel of lock-up.
Also if a new tune was installed a lot have been changing when it locks up. Just a thought. Unless the truck is falling out of gear, then jumping right back in which is also possible. -Mat-

Yeah they are like that. I believe these tranmissions kick-down off of torque demand and speed. So if you have enough torque it will just stay in that gear rather then kick down. -Mat-
