gimme the lowdown on the new top items for the L's

been a while since i really looked into whats currently the most current and proven stuff for the l's

i'll probably do,

exhaust,
6lb lower,
ported blower
cai
dyno tune

i know when i put the jdm LT's on my 01, they didn't do squat for power, sounded great, but for $1k plus, not worth the money

been doing some searching, but figured i'd get the low down

Sounds like you have all the basics covered. Only things I can think of is:

FTVB
Drag Radials/Track Tires
Traction Bars
Driveshaft loop

I picked up some power with my LT's, and I'm still running factory cat-back. I think most people say that the converters are a bottleneck.

BTW: I remember you from the corral back when you had I think the 99 Cobra. I was amazed you were building the motor of a practically brand new car. That was some pretty good reading back then.

Good luck with the new L.

After all that its just 0-10 HP bolt ons.

HeatExchanger, E-Fan, SBTB, phenolic spacer, idlers for belt slippage, etc...

then comes the big money items (most likely need a built lower)

Heads/Cams, whipple/KB (both out of stock), magnum (not sure if it need valve springs yet)

...or you can just spend 400 for a low end nitrous kit all the way up to over 1k for the race tested nitrous. which will be as you know the best bang for the buck. I guess things haven't changed much since your last lightning.

agree with Sharpshooter above. In case you have not seen this, REALITY check on popular mods (what works, what does not): http://www.kennebell.net/techinfo/fo...ngTechTips.pdf

and ig you want to buy into more KB bull****, do the ultimate cold air induction!

No hood!

Really; If I was doing it over again I would skip all the little bolt on's, and go straight with the bigger(KB) blower. Don't waiste your money with porting the eaton. Bolt the KB on, use it; you sell the truck simply unbolt it and near about get your money back out of it.

MotorCityBolt Jul 16, 2005 09:38 AM

Hold on. Every mod has its place. I think the Eaton port is a great bang-for-buck mod. Only $500 and very little work to port match the blower-to-plenum with a drill and grinder and you get, what, 35 rwhp; and with a 4lb lower even more. What's bad about that. I am not going to spring an extra $2k+ for the KB. I just have other priorities to go that route. I'll just wait for you KB guys to freak when the whipple is finally out and I'll pick up a used one for a good price, then. Right now, the Eaton ain't eatin' my budget. :D

you're right. things like phenolic spacer, line mod valve, and boost bypass kit all belong in the trash.

This is exactly what I would be tempted to do. I would like to see some results from someone who did this.

You mean the Magnum-make no-Powers blower

Beef

you were around long enough before...you know the drill. You'll get yay and nay on alot.

The long tubes and high flows are expensive, and PEAK torque and hp won't gain a ton, but you'll see the increase in the mid range definetely. Especially if running a ported blower and 6lb lower.

The Magnum blower has mixed results right now. Do a search and you'll see.

I think KB is the curse of death on a stock block. Power comes on way quicker then the Eaton. Plus it's not very cheap.

If you are looking to have fun on the street, ported blower, 6lb lower, tune, factory tech valve body.

If you're getting back into the racing game, i'm convinced best bang for the buck is above, convertor, traction bars and slicks.

Put you close to, if not into the 11's.

Glad to see your back.......
