Who's got that shifter handle
 

I haven't been on this forum for a couple of years, but I remember someone had a billet shifter handle for sale, does anyone know where I can get one? My shifter handle just broke, darn plastic junk. Of course if I could save money on an OEM handle I would go that route. If anyone knows where I can get either, please post. TIA

Thanks Odin. Unfortunately that just looks like a cover, I need the new handle. I just called my dealer and he said it would be about $100 for parts, and I have to take off the wheel to replace it cause the darn overdrive button. :mad: Let's see, a tube of superglue is about two bucks!!! Maybe I'll try the salvage yard next.

Fast, thanks for the link. That is a sweet looking handle, I think for an extra 25 bucks I will go that route if I can't find a junkyard handle (that will break again). Plastic is great for a lot of stuff, but should be kept in it's place for keeping things lightweight and all, NOT for moving parts and things that will occasionally get bumped. Yeesh, I'm becoming my father!! :eek:

I broke the shifter on my '99 and it was a PITA to replace. First, you do have to replace the whole thing as the design was changed (because they break?). The tough part was the overdrive wire. Then, after a long struggle, I got the bastard in and the trim around the overdrive button wouldn't fit. Back to the dealer... 'You didn't ask for the new one' You didn't tell me they were different and that I needed a new one! EEEERRRRRR!!!

that one looks nice, but i bet that sucker would be HOT after sitting in the sun for a while. my steering wheel even gets too hot to touch sometimes until the a/c gets going.

I had the end of the handle fall off, too. The dealer said it was common on the F-150, and replaced it under warrante (under 3 year, 30k).
I watched the tech doing the work - he did not remove the steering wheel, just the plastic around the column, and it took him maybe 10 minutes.

The trickiest part was removing the ignition, you have to have the key in and running, then there is a button on the cylinder that he pushed to remove it, with the engine running, then he fished the wire into place, plugged it in, then reassembled.

The only thing I don't like about this shifter is you don't have the OD on-off light. I know you don't really need it but I like it in case you might forget if it's on or off at the track, on the interstate it's easy to tell.

Anyone who has one of these shifters: Is there no OD light, like in the stock shifter? TIA.

I have one, there is no OD light and I like it that way. I don't need no stinkin light! :cool:

Also, the installation doesn't require removing the wheel. It also comes with rubber O-Rings that can be installed in the grooves where your hand touches it. It's no hotter that any other shifter.
