3k engine vibration
3k engine vibration
Tell me.. as lightning owners do you have this:
When I am in neutral and I rev it through the rpm range.. when it gets to 3,000 rpms there is a bad resonance type vibration.. if i go higher it slowly goes away as i get lower too.
I don't even like revving it up because of the vibration I feel.
It has no vibration at all when driving it at those rpms.. just when I free rev.
Could it be the 6# pulley?
I am going to change to the 4# anyways and see if it helps..

I think it is the plugs.
I had the stock plugs in a stock engine on my 99 L and 3K was not a happy spot.
My 04 has it very slight but I think with 3k miles on the plugs they haven't gone south yet.
Every engine will have a spot were Harmonics show up. It is best to avoid it for long periods whenever possible.

it is not a miss by far.. its a steady vibration and the faster the motor spins the faster you feel it.. but 3k is the strongest.
i think it does kind of roar a bit.. more feel than noise though.
also it has nothing to do with the charger because i took the 6# pulley off the bottom this morning and ran the truck without it, without the charger spinning but everything else was.
i had the serpentine belt off for the accessories but i didn't try to run it without that.. i should have.
its a very fast vibration in tune with the engine rpms i believe.
probably something out of balance.....

Do a search on the stock exhaust. Many owners reported a "vibration" while running down the highway at 80/85 mph. including me
After replacing the stock cat-back with an aftermarket exhaust, the vibration went away. If you look under the truck, you will see big "balancers"(lacking a better word) hanging off the stock muffler.
Btw...........quit reving the motor to 3K rpm's in neutral, or your next post will be, there's oil leaking from my motor

Mines as smooth as silk when free revving.
I'd say to first check the easy stuff. I'd have an experienced ear listen to it. Just for comparisons sake to make sure it feels off to them.
Next, Pull the belts and check that each accessory spins freely w/o any percievable side to side play or clunk. Next I'd replace the plugs. (never hurts), then maybe take a look at the motor mounts to make sure they are good, then if it's still there you'll wanna have a experienced Lightning guy check it out. maybe one of the tuners would be best.

I just wanted to say it isn't that bad and its not a steady vibration like i thought it goes woom.....woom.....woom....woom.....woom vibration kind of sound..
hard to explain, i mean you can't feel it outside of the truck, only if you sit in it.. and you can't see it on the engine.
