Help! Dyno guys say i'm running dangerously lean!

They said i was running so lean they stopped the dyno altogether on the second pull. My truck is completely stock. Is this right? I thought 12.5 was even o.k.

1. do you ahve a predator?>
2. what mods are done?

RED 92 Sep 17, 2004 11:56 AM

Tom do you have a breather ? If you bought it used, check for a chip!!!.....

that is way too lean, something is wrong, that is too lean for a stock truck...do not get on it until you have the dealer check for and intake leak or other problem if its still under warranty.

If not under warranty have it tuned .

11.7 is ....ideal

Wouldn't 346 RWHP be a little high for a stock truck? I thought most were showing 320 to 330 RWHP when dyno'd stock. I'm with red 92, did you get this L used? I'd have it checked for mods and certainly you need to have it tuned before you end up with air conditioning where you don't want it.

I've only seen one 02 bone stock truck run on the dyno. His A/F was a dead flat 12.0 accross the run. And put down 345hp. (had a conical air filter but nothing else)

First thing I'd do is to change that fuel filter. Second would be to check for any vacuum leaks.

Thanks guys! I'm so glad i had this thing dyno'd (especially a/f). I haven'd done anything to this truck yet AT ALL. The guys were telling me maybe the fuel pump/filter/line should be changed.

I'm now im going to put on a k&n fipk2, bassani catback, 4lb lower, and then get the whole thing custom tuned with a predator. (Also ill have them check for any kind of fuel issues that might be causin this STOCK truck to be so lean).

This truck is used though, so anything is possible. My mechanic didnt see anything changed though.

The guy said after all the mods that he'd still warranty the truck so that seems like a pretty sweet deal.

clean your MAF sensor.

change your plugs, fuel filter, put some injector cleaner in your tank.

basic tune up,

If you bought it used you need to check a few things. Look under the passenger side dash for the computer, see if there is a chip. I would also check to make sure you have the stock pulley. You may have an aftermarket one already.
Also, If you are truly completely stock I would try to figure out why you are so lean and fix it before you mod. I went lean and blew my motor.
